Worst character/who you keep out of party?
Who do you almost never have in your party? For me it's Eleanor - she's got some useful artes and I could see her being decent, but honestly don't see a huge draw to her over anyone that I would replace, especially as melee seem to die too quick to bosses as AI so I just keep her benched most of the time.

Funny, I find Eleanor to be one of the best to keep in my party. Infact i like to swap between controlling velvet and eleanor.

My party comp 99% of the time is Velvet (Me), Laphicet, Eleanor, and Magoliu. I'll swap for Eizen when i need more melee, i mostly never have Rokuro, his dmg never seems up to par imo.

Same here. I swap out Velvet when I want to controll something that isn't her so the AI doesn't get her killed.

Eizen and Magilou get benched most frequently for me and that's simply because they don't have as broad a attack type coverage as the other 4. So they get benched when I'm in an area that resists their major elements frequently.

Otherwise I use the whole party. The character I play swaps fairly regularly between Eizen, Velvet, and Rokuro. The friend I play with takes the other three.

Magilou and Phi are the best characters to have in party because almost every stuff in the game are weak to Hidden Artes. I swap characters a lot to level titles and stuff but my main is Eizen and my sub is Phi.

Rokurou Break Soul while awesome is way too situational for me and it's hard to reset the combo count with it because the starter frames are bs and if you manage to get hit it's bye-bye combo because of knock-down.
Yaya Feb 9, 2017 @ 10:04am
I usually keep out Rokurou, because like others stated his BS is way too situational.
Magi and Phi are always in the party, casters AI is very good this time around.
As for my main, I use Eleanor and swap her out for Velvet when I'm in trouble, or to Magi when there are many enemy casters. Eizen's BS is also situational, but knockdowns and stuns tend to fly around a lot.

Elanore is really good in terms of wind and water attacks. She combos into wide area sweeps very well. I use her quite a bit. I use Eizen a lot because of his long ranged stuns which chains into Break Souls. Velvet is pretty standard as a combo character and Laphicet is pretty decent as a mid ranged figher with spellcasting. Magilou is just fun to play.

Rokurou is not a bad character but honestly, but his playstyle is not very well inspired. Nothing about him makes me want to pursue his playstyle much.

My best shot party composition is Velvet (First Striker) + Rokurou, this.. this guy, his close combat style and mobile striker can be helpful as sweeper or for preventing Velvet loss her combo chains ,especially against single target like Boss/Dire Foe + Eleanor, as Support-Striker and her malak arte cover medium range + Laphicet for best in any situation for long range skill spammer because his malak arte cover 5 elements. Eizen and Magilou have been benched most frequently, but they can replace main party in the situational condition, for example for more offensive against enemy weak of water or fire, Magilou is the best shot as long range skill spammer. I always play at highest difficulty and Dire Foe is common sport-friend for grinding, in my case, Boss or Dire Foe beating is easier when Velvet+Rokurou+Eleanor+Laphicet in party compared other composition.

I think all are pretty good if they have "decent gear". my team is Vel,Laph,Ele & Magi. mostly for the AoE.

I'm surprised that you don't play Eizen since this game rewards status effect spamming and kind of cuts players short on the dodge mechanic. One combo with Eizen will pretty much fill his soul gauge all the way. If you stun an opponent in any "Tales of" game, they're fully open to damage from any angle for a pretty long period of time enabling hardcore combos. Not to mention how much gear in this game enables the characters who equip them to deal an additional percentage damage to stunned foes. In this game, Eizen is godly.

I benched Velvet and Magilou all the time. But not because they are worst character, but the most useful.

I main Rokurou or Eizen. Eizen and Eleanor are always in team because of the double Raise. Laphicet's spell spam is always great.

Now, Magilou is just dominating against caster, but the AI just doesn't play her very well (doesn't Spell Absorb as much, and doesn't LOOK A SHOOTING STAR as much). Hence why I keep her at bay for the time I need to use her. Switching her in instead of having her from the start of battle would ensure me having at least one shot (in Risky Encounter) at Spell Absorber.

Velvet is well, OP. Having her benched would ensure that she's in top form to slaughter everyone. Whenever I was stunned, it's my conditional reflex by now to switch to her immediately and rampage. Also, AI sucked using her, especially after getting Nightmare Claw. Hence why I don't trust the AI with her and would rather she be benched.

I agree.I can spam Eizens Break Soul (the first and the second) like velvet's and after doing so a few attacks and his souls are fully up again.
Nonetheless my party is Velvet+Laphi+Rokurou+Magilou
If i have no souls left with velvet or situational i switch over to Eizen or Eleanor

Wrong. Set her up right and she'll do constant perfect Spell Absorbers and murder everything, she is ridiculous.

Your best best is not to rely too much on it but always be ready to use it, unlike Velvet where you basically just get a free turbo mode that you can spam. Rokurou is more about positioning than Velvet, Eleanor and even Eizen and dodging into and out of combos/break souls is going to be your best friend 90% of the time. I tend to play him more like an MMO rogue than a Tales character. He doesn't have much wiggle room for mistakes and if you try and spam him on higher difficulties especially later in the game you will die fast.
I can use him just fine to actually counter, I just found it hard to reset the combo chain with it.
Arn Feb 9, 2017 @ 11:55am
If I have an opportunity to continue my combo string I'll do it. This game really needed a skill for removing the chain limit, spaming Break Soul is not only retarded overpower it makes battles boring af.
