What are the little white balls that you pick up?

I am just in the first dungeon after you meet Seres and try to escape. I forget what the tutorial told me about the little balls you pick up. I don't see them added to my inventory, and when I pick them up, all I get is a little icon on the right of the ball, with the number that I have next to it.

What are these, please, and what do i do with them? I hope this makes sense. Is there another tutorial about them later? There is nothing in the help screen about them.

its a part of somthjng you learn about later on, so keep playing ^^

You'll get the tutorial for them, soon. They're currency you use to open up special pink treasure chests. Don't even worry about it, for now.

They respawn in areas that you leave and come back to too, so don't worry about finding them all.
