I've reloaded this fight 7 times now and it isn;t happening though, is there any sure fire way to trigger it?
Titan (if it's actually the code red in the volcano that you are talking about) has a pretty high defense, but if you actually hit his weaknesses he goes down surprisingly fast, as he fights just like the golems, strong blows but so slow that it's easy to get out of his way (if you are not trying to do a timed side step at least).
If I remember correctly, titan actually has a full reduction on the elements he resist, but he is not like the crystal thing that resists and reflects every element at least.
Does the difficulty affect it at all?
Phoenix itself is a cheesy boss no matter the difficulty, tiny size meaning that some attacks go right over his head, high attack power (and stuns because of his high status), and a bad habit of either not using his 0HP mystic arte or using it multiple times in the same fight.
I played on chaos in my first run, but I had to put it all the way down to hard before I could realistically beat him.
The worst part is that he acted like a boss from zestiria for most of the fight (going after my allies and ignoring me that was chasing and hitting him).
All in all though, aside from his cheesy strategy and high stats, his attacks aren't that bad, he mostly uses his jump/ground pound that you can anticipate, but it does make the fight go for a long time as you are very much put on the defensive, dishing a few attacks here and there between his attacks.
A lot actually, his level and stats vary more than even the last boss, but he is definitely set as a boss that says "Do NG+ with experience multipliers and come back".
the irony here is that as soon as you posted thbis, Phoenix activated his Revive Mystic Arte haha.
Thanks though, this is guy is easily the hardest thing I've fought so far. And by hard, he just has a lot of health and actually does decent amounts of damage. That "I'm a bird" move in particualy hurts.
I was pushing Level 63 when I got to him, but that really just gets you more HP.
