Game need cd?

I just got the falcon 4.0 on steam when i laucnh game it says i need to insert CD

I don't understand why they didn't handle the Steam release the same way they handled it on gog.com (the publisher is the same on both platforms, Retroism) where the older games up to Falcon 3.0/Gold is what they actually sell (for a grand total of $9.09 vs the separate releases here) with the non-functional vanilla Falcon 4.0 being there only as a free bonus for posterity's sake and of course for people to be able to purchase it legally in order to run the various fan modifications that are the only reason to still have this game these days. Even if 4.0 is the main reason to get the bundle for most at least they're honest with the description.

So anyway, just go download the de facto fan mod's (BMS) current 4.33 version (you need to register there for the forums to be viewable), direct its installer to the location of the Steam Falcon 4.0 installation when asked, install BMS in a different location as a new program, then after the fact you're actually free to delete the original Steam install of the game.

Here's the mod's setup file torrent (there are no conventional mirrors that I could find) at a link you don't need to sign up for, I just uploaded it after downloading it from the mod's official forum, if you have a better file sharing host I should use instead just let me know, I googled for that (but I won't upload the actual setup file, anyone here can use a legal torrent, right?).

The way they handled the release on Steam might make it easier or a tiny bit cheaper for some of the people who know what they're getting into with this game but the negative reviews and confusion from the others are sadly more than justified, as it's yet another game that basically doesn't actually work bringing Valve's/Steam's image down as well since even if its intentional from the actual publisher it shouldn't have been allowed in this misleading presentation. It's especially absurd since it is in fact possible to modify the installation in a way that makes it work vanilla as well (going by the illegal copies of the game floating on the web the last decade or two).

If this game needs a mod to be able to play it, it should have already been included with the purchase/download. There was no mention in the store page about this when I bought. Refund time.

I will say this: Steam has made it very easy to request refunds for games like this. I just went to Steam support and followed the links and BAM! request sent.

They can't, the group that made Falcon BMS and the publisher are different entities.

Guys, this game is the best consumer F-16 simulator ever made when updated to Falcon BMS 4.33. It's worth updating and keeping the purchase.

Not if it doesn't work as advertised. Otherwise it's free to install from cd. I shouldn't need a third party patch.

I don't know why this is being sold on Steam. It is included free with the rest of the collection on GOG.

Hey i just bought Falcon collection on GOG and it lists 4.0 in it but Gold which seems to be the one that has it when i launch it it doesnt give 4.0 as a option to launch

How do you start 4.0

the game sold on steam is not working as sold, this is shameful

yes you can get a mod but that is like selling a car to a person and saying go get petrol from the petrol station and wheels from a tyre shop

Guys it is hard to register on bms forum and download the update and instal on Falcon 4.0 steam folder the patch? Learn to read foruns (Hope i coould help) Enjoy the game
