If you don’t shoot at them it looks like the settle on your colony with a pretty advanced dreadnaught sized ship. They then provided me with Exploration data for 4 previously unexplored planets (which happened to be enemy colonies). I think they always chose other colonies for this as they are supposed to be colonies they previously traded with. They also provide a 5% research bonus for 10 turns. (after which they will leave?) While there they are supposed to reduce output or income from that planet - I think - but I’m not sure how much or how this works.
PS - do you have the link to Menaces on the Wayback Wiki? I’m also looking for a link to the page that explains Starmap (Interstellar) speeds by race and tech level if you know where that is. Thanks.
As for the Unknown Menace link:
https://web.archive.org/sots1/Unknown_Menace
So far I've only been able to navigate the site using the links, the search doesn't seem to work, so I've not been able to find some pages because I don't know how they're linked to the others.
The what now? I didn't even bother to look this up because I thought you may have accidentally posted in the wrong forum. This has been in the game again since ANY and I have never once had this event....
Closer to twenty years in and this game still has a surprise or two. Isn't that great?
To elaborate there appear to be two types of refugees, RefugeeTrader and RefugeeDrone.
RefugeeTrader being the big ship most of us encounter and have a choice of granting asylum, denying asylum or outright attacking them, each providing different benefits?
There are also less known RefugeeDrones which attack your freighters like any other raider ships, in my experience you don't even have to come across the RefugeeTrader ship to see them for me they just showed up and began raiding my planets and trade routes for some time.
Some ingame files Info:
On accepting refugees you will be given between 100000 and 500000 credits, a bonus of 5% research for 10 turns and 5 random systems in the close vicinity to each other will be explored for you at random they might as well be belonging to another player and be across the solar system, however you will have your industrial output of the system lowered permamently by 5% while they are on your planet.
Encounters txt file:
REFUGEES_SAVINGSBONUS_MIN 100000
REFUGEES_SAVINGSBONUS_MAX 500000
REFUGEES_RESEARCHBONUS_AMOUNT 0.05
REFUGEES_RESEARCHBONUS_TURNS 10
REFUGEES_MAX_SYSTEMVIEWS 5
REFUGEES_SYSTEM_OUTPUT_MOD 0.95
On top of it all your system will be deffended by a relatively powerful Dreadnought for free with no upkeep.
Equipped with 1 heavy, 12 medium and 12 small weapons all of which are pretty end game like blue lasers and purple particle cannons.
