Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight

Estimated length of a first playthrough?
Since this is getting hyped as the prequel and most expanded upon, so I'm just curious.

Potentially as long as some of these games?
- Cave Story
- Valdis Story
- Dust: An Elysian Tail
- Ori & The Blind Forest

* I will be buying this game on Day 1 release, just want to estimate my weekend time since I'll also be trying out the new Deponia game.

I'd like to know as well!
I'm wondering about game length as well.

2 hours

Really?

If that actually is the case, that's disappointing.

Is it? Compared to the roughly 30min - 1hour gameplay of Momodora 3 that sounds quite good.

Comparatively, sure.

I've never played any of the Momodora games, but this looked interesting.

I'm not sure about the price if it's that short, I'll think about it.
Played 30-40 min ... 40% map discovered. Really disappointing :(
Depends of your pace I guess.

1h30 in, about 45% map.

It's probably pretty short (definitively longer than those alledged two hours though, 'cause as with all those games, there's some backtracking if you want to get the collectibles... or even just progress) but still worth the price IMO.

If you want a longer metroidvania game, I'd suggest Rabi-Ribi. It's really different from Momodora 4 though.

"I have not played any of the concerned games but here's the lenght of a first playthrough, based on absolutely nothing".

Nice one dude.

First run on Normal difficulty, and I'd say, if you try to 100% it, as in:

- blind playthrough
- finding all those insects sidequest
- finding all those health upgrades sidequest
- grinding enemies for money to buy all items
- learning enemy attack patterns
- 100% map exploration

will take at least 5 - 6 hours, and this isn't an accurate guess since I haven't even finished the first run.

That 2 hours thing might be plausible if:
- pacifist run, ignoring all minor enemies
- 0% item speedrun, forgoing map exploration but boss after boss traveling. (meaning you already know where to go)

After playing the older Momodora games and reading these comments, I was really wary at purchasing this game when someone said "2 hours". The other games were fun but VERY short, so I wasn't sure if this one was worth the price tag.

I'm so glad I decided to buy this game, and anyone who "beat" this game in 2 hours is either cheating (has a map/watching playthrough) or they're not playing it right (playing on easy and blowing through it).

If you are a fan of challenging platformers, or even a fan of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, don't hesitate! Get this game, put it on hard, prepare to die and have a blast while doing it.

Like Bloodborne, you will learn enemy locations and attack patterns, enemies always spawn in the same place. But one or two wrong moves and you're dead, it's back to the last checkpoint (these are far more plenty than similar games, plus you have healing items). The game never feels cheap and deaths are almost always due to a poor move on my part.

If you play the game the way it's meant to be played, a brutal RPG platformer, you'll get much more than 2 hours of enjoyment from it. My first playthrough was around 6 hours, and then there's a new game +, for me replay value is high. There's plenty of collectibles and secrets and I want them all. If you're not into that, replaying the new game + is still fun and challenging.

Sorry for the wall of text, but because I came to this thread looking for an idea if this game was worth the price, I knew I had to come back and let others who might be asking the same thing know that yes, it's totally worth the price and more. I've spent $20 bucks on shorter games that weren't nearly as fun (I'm looking at you Firewatch), or that were good but short and had no replay value.
I just finished up 100% map completion on my first run, normal mode, blind and I'm at 5 hours right now gonna go whip the final boss and get the true ending. To get the bad ending it took me 3 hours so I'd say that 2 hour estimate is a bit short.
2 hours... 31%

Then again I'm doing my first run in Hard Mode.
3 hours, 56% on normal. Have died quite a bit xD
I also recommend Rabi-Ribi :)

Same to the Rabi-Ribbi recommendations, that game is so much fun and lasted so long for the price
