Any way to save the NPCs? *Spoilers*
Is it possible to actually save any of the NPCs in the game, for example the lady who says "make this stop", Cath, Askorn, the guy in the cell next to Askorn, etc?

Also, do you get a different item if you choose to end Cath's suffering? I chose not to my first time and got the Passiflora.

Not really, apart from Askorn when he's in his cell, but that's about it. No amount of speedrunning can save them unlike Momodora III.

Considering you've mentioned you got the Passiflora when you didn't end her suffering, then you get it no matter what, since I always did.
Edit: Should also mention ending Cath gets rid of the body, that's about it.

Nope, they don`t even have the same hair color. Furthermore u can see some blood at her origin place. Just remember this is not a game about salvation.

What is this game about? Because only after buying this one I was 'aware' that it is a series with at least 2 other games...is this game's experience 'damaged' by not playing the previous ones?

This game actually comes first chronologically in the Momodora story, so playing this first is fine. Momodora 2 and 3 are good and worth playing, I didn't like Momodora 1 too much but you may as well try it out. They all generally follow the same plot structure.
