outline Paint tool's functionallity?
i did a search in the forms for Outline Pant and Outline Tool, but didnt see any relevent results. all in all i dont think i quite understand how this tool works.

when i select it, it links onto the edges of the grid (as i expect it to) but then the part i dont get is how do i draw with it? it feels like it wants to be like a line tool but some times it doesnt.

to give an example, some times i move it to a location i want to make a hard line/outline, i click and drag, i see a line, i release, the line is gone every where except for on the last line i had my mouse over on release.

other times when i do the same as above it will draw a line. (resulting in me having to over an area a few times to make a line, and then acadently making a double thick line)

i single click and it does the same thing, except the last little line that is droped, keeps moving every time i click.

is there a way for this to fill in around an area? like to just create outline around this color

this is more for a sytle effect that id like to use it with to give it an inking feel to a drawn text object.

the over all thing im looking for is what the controls are for this tool, like how should i be drawing a line with it, are there extra functions like holding ctrl, and what determins when my line starts vs when it should end (do i need to hitt esc to end a line, double click, right click?)

hope this is just some setting i unclicked by mistake (also i was doing this in the trixel layout with the smallest grid, the 5th one form the left with the tiny trinalges)

thanks.

~edit~
somthing that came to mind is that im also using a low spec computer right now and it lags a bit when i go into the small triangle grid, so if i know how this tool should be working i could probably just blame it on my cpu moving slowly and not accepting the commands im sending to the program

Also, I would like to be able to FILL large areas of the currently shown grid, is there a way to do that, faster than manually drawing in each possible line? (Sometimes, the design just looks cooler if the grid that shaped it is partly visible!)

one way to do it would be to cut/copy the area you want the grid to be shown onto a new layer, in the layer properties enable exported grid and enable hide on empty hexels, adjust color and thickness. voilá.

Interesting, thanks! Didn't know that was there

When I exported a .PSD, the layers of the grid export were blank? While the other image layers were normal

Yeah I got that too when I tick the option for seperate layer for exported grid. That surely is one of those bugs that hopefully one day will be fixed. Untick the option and at least that layer is exported normally with the grid.

Wish I'd discovered this app earlier as you did! ; - ) cheers. I've got my grids exporting nicely now, I just put them on their own layer.
(super grid is interesting)
Q: Is there a way to have multiple DIFFERENT grids on different layers, and get them exported? (because they all seem to change to the current style.)

(of course, I might work around this by exporting it multiple times with different grids on)

As far as I know you can only have one active shape mode in your document which affects all shape layers.
Trixel Layers allow some kind of freedom with it's different shape options and transforming layers (moving, resizing, rotating) also opens up some opportunities for all kind of shapes.

But: You can make something in one type of shape and once you are finished rasterize the layer to a pixellayer and then change the shape and start a new shape layer on top/below as you please. Check the document options for your resolution to keep everything in the resolution you want it to be.
