! One of the "Holy Grails" of my youth is finally on STEAM. !
Chaos Gate was a LOVE of mine back at 1998, side-by-side wit the XCOM-Terror-From-The-Deep.
This edition I just tested and it plays fine on my PC, at 1920*1080.

The game is so good, that apart from being a cherished memory of mine, I also have played it sporadically during these decades using my revived DOS and Win XP old PCs, and also trying with some modded editions for playing on modern systems. This version on STEAM is very convenient for me, and it seems worthing the money they are asking for it, since from my first testing it seems to be a good and decent port for new computer rigs. ... AT LAST, I thought when I sow and grasp the game, SOMEONE BROUGHT THIS MASTERPIECE ON STEAM !!!!

An SSI game. ... SSI, perhaps one of the best strategy games developers ever...
EDIT : Don't forget to rename your space marines upon starting the campain game (I always create a "real life friends" squad at all squad-tactics games). Don't neglect that we can drag-and-drop marines between squads to swap places: we can re-arainge the 5-men-squad distribution of our marines, since each individual has slightly different random stats.

Action-Points (Time-Units) Turn Based Combat. Plethora of weapons and options. RPG-Style stats for each marine, with XP gain and upgrades (I always rename a marine and he is my character as an immersive RPG element in the gameplay). Space Marine setting of the old-school era. Tons of replayability. Tactical thinking. Plenty of gamelplay hours. Graphics that have "aged" ok. And a "clean screen" user interface without all the modern-era "helpfull" immersion-brakers like "terrain-cover-shields and move-range-lines neon marking" (like in the beloved modern-Chaos-Gate and modern-X-Com), providing a nice old-school gameplay alternative.

The game is marked in my memory as SO GOOD that I just broke my "80+ Rule" on STEAM : I have so many good games in my backlock steam library, that I know I will die (preferably from Old-Age) before I will be able to play all of them. Also, finance in my country are getting worse year after year, regardless that I am having a stable job so far. So, for may years now I am following the rule of purchasing games only when they are at 80% and higher discount.
... But today, when Chaos Gate popped up during my daily Steam-check, I just NEEDED to replay it AGAIN ! And the pricing from the devs is mid-to-OK-reasonable... So, for the first time in years, I purchased a game at only -20% ... :-)

PS: Read the Manual (available pdf at steam game page). For example "If the character strength is greater than his weapons strength, this number is used in calculating melee damage."

I remember this game from many years ago. Unlike many old to modern ports, this one seems to work really smoothly.

It is a fun, campy tactical shooter. You will need to wrestle with understanding the interface a little bit because it is quite dated; similar, but not quite as nuanced as old X-Com.

I am so glad to find this on Steam. It has been on GOG for years but was very difficult to get it to run on modern machines and took a lot of tinkering to make it work (and even then it rarely was stable). This worked right away and with no tinkering; even on my current PC that is only a year old. This has long been one of my favorite WH40K games. I actually like it more than the Chaos gate that came out just a few years ago. The classic chaos gate is a much more simple game (obviously) but it seems to one of the best to capture the feel of the WH40K universe. I like the music. And there is a surprising amount of depth. As your units get more experienced, they will improve in their capabilities and matching the correct gear with the correct space marine is important. Give it a try. The graphics are very 1990s but the game play is great.
