Survival game! read the fine print, oh wait shouldnt even be fine print. This is a Survival game not call of duty or another game where its just run in and die respawn and repeat, The key word here is "SURVIVAL" look it up in the dictonary and that being said try it unless you dont like a challenge

I definetly think the permadeath adds a lot to the gameplay.
I certainly feel a bigger challenge and its great!

I still wonder if any of my ciano tube repairs would carry over if i die, certainly hope so but not a big deal if not.

LordDG - for every cryo core your character uses you will get one respawn in your CURRENT world, which means any bases and changes you have made, i.e. cryo tubes and batteries, will remain. IF you die without using a cryo core then you will have to start the world over, one caveat is that cryo cores are also used to unlock new spawn points (these only need to be unlocked once, so no matter how many times you die they will still be unlocked) so if you havent unlocked any then save the core till you find a new spawn point as they are quite rare. I love the permadeath feature as it makes every decision meaningful, as in you can run away from one enemy, but you may be run into a pack of monsters and have no stamina left. Im tired of games with no lives and real reprecussions to what you do, i grew up in the 80s where we needed to enter codes to continue a game as there were no save points, the usual rinse repeat rambo style gets old quick.

There is an extremely long thread about this issue elsewhere, and after a lot of discussion, the developers said that they would be adding a non-permadeath mode but it would only come later after the current testing/development. So just wait and see if they do this as promised, and then you should be good.

At least in this forum we are all polite. You can talk here without problems not like other games where they only know how to say: gid gud or trash like that. +1 point for the community!

Considering the game has less than 7000 owners probably not a good idea to alienate other consumers.

Stop acting like a spoiled entitled brat. Properly voice why you think the game would be better without permadeath or suggest alternatives like 1) A save system that can only be used sparingly so death could still wipe hours of progress allowing for a good middle ground. 2) A more casual mode like The Forest has. 3) A cloning system that allows you to create a backup version of you but is extremely costly. It would have a mind, soul transfer so it's still you without question not just some dublicate. Investing in cloning would cost a lot of time and resources, but would allow for a few extra lives to negate the risks of explorational hazards.

The developers are at least incorporating the game around permadeath. Do you have any idea how obnoxious it is when a developer just tacts it on? It doesn't add anything to the difficulty since the games that do that are still poorly designed around play to win design. Games design around the notion that you can die, that death has a lasting effect are typically better balanced mechanically than not.

I, for one, appreciate these perma-death games. Too many games take the easy road, anymore. I hope that the development team leaves in a hardcore mode, if they ever decide to cater to the casual gamers, to boost revenue. Until that time, Git Gud or Git Gone. :3

Definitely agree. There is nothing more immersion breaking than dying and popping back up somewhere. It takes all the edge out of the game, though if they have to remove it go for a save system instead of respawns. Make saving like oldschool survival horror to keep the challenge. That'll be easy to disable for a hardcore mode.

P.A.M.E.L.A. isn't hardcore perma-death.

*Dying* is the only way of *unlocking* some 50-odd passive bonuses to your character.

To over simplify it, you play with a clone. When you die, you continue with a new clone fresh out of cryo without gear or upgrades (I did say over simplify, right?), but what you achieved in the world remains intact and what you left in containers are still waiting for you.

Cryo Cores are used to unlock new spawning points, and to buy you another *life*, but in some quick testing I did after one of the updates it looked as if no matter how many times you die, one spawn point will always remain active, which essentially means there is no perma-death (requires more thorough verification).

I now have containers full of spare gear and consumeables all over the place in anticipation of killing myself after committing mass genocide on the population of Eden to max my Genome tree.

I do wish that I could unlock those passive buffs without dying though... :steamsad:

Permadeath, from my understanding, is when you die and that's it. Game over. Everything is completely wiped. This game does not function that way. When you die you respawn as a fresh player but with the added bonus of your GP to spend to improve your character.

Everything is persistent it seems. If you die your character dies but the body along with the upgrades stays in the game world available for you to run back to, loot and continue as you would have. It's a minor inconvenience. This also means everything you've salvaged and picked up along the way is persistent. Very interesting way to play.

It's definitely not permadeath. It's more a roguelite in the softest of terms considering all you have to do is just run back to your body and loot it to get everything you had back.

DR.Larry - when you die you do get to keep any skills and abilities you have learned, BUT the game world is wiped and you start over. The ONLY way to keep any bases you`ve made and any items you`ve stored is to use the Cry-Core item at a Cryo-Station, each Cryo-Core will give you 1 life, so if you die you can continue with the current game world rather than having to start completely over. Oh and Cryo-Cores are a very rare item, i have only ever found 3 in one game (save was wiped from update), right now i have 2, one i spent for a life and one im saving to unlock any new spawn points they make.

I think Permadeath makes this game. Without it or even with quick load quick save setup this game would become too easy. It can be kinda gutting when you have been going a few hours and one bad decision (Say getting into a fight and not realising there may be other citizens around who may ambush you at the same time) gets you kileld but i think the tension it brings adds to the game. For the record i have yet to come across a Cryo-Core but again like the idea that I may be able to save but its going to be a rare occurrence.

But of course if its optional then adding the option would not affect your gameplay at all right?
Giving the player the choice how they play the game is a good thing right?

I would think that is reasonable if it isnt too much of a problem for the developer.

But I have died without any cryo core and just had the option to respawn in the same world with everything I did being persistent. Was it just because it was my first time playing that I got a free respawn or did it but out or what? I'm confused with this...
