How abput cold steel 2?
Doing this is also a huge cultural faux pas in Japan and would make future licensing harder. It'd be seen as a slap in the face to the original VAs.
Ys7 - xseed - no japanese audio
Ys8 - nisa - japanese audio
That said, Tokyo Xanadu and Ys VIII were released after our 'newest' Falcom game, Cold Steel 2.
It's possible that something has changed in more recent Falcom projects that allowed them to do it.
We've always tried, but we've never been able to thus far. We will always keep trying, though.
More likely, we already know that Japanese voice actors' contracts often specify that their voices may not be used outside of Asian regions; sometimes it's possible to renegotiate that, but if even one VA refuses, it makes the whole thing fall through. It's worse for older games, where renegotiating the original contracts may simply be impossible.
I searched around google and found this. Nono isn't the first person mentioning it. Other than that, I didn't find anything solid but that could also be hidden information without confirmation.
NISA can do it. And give you broken promises (still awaiting the PC port of Ys 8) and Abyssmal Localizations to boot.
Aksys can do it. And give you an inconsitent localization on top of JPN audio only.
Better than no japanese audio. Most jrpg from tecmo have japanese audio only, thats way better. If only jrpg have same eng voice quality like western games
I'd rather go with a localizer which prioritizes a strong script and technical upgrades over time vs. a competitor doing a rush job but with a suspiciously nice CE and dual-audio. Ys VIII's a bad first impression for NISA tying to handle a Falcom game, considering they underestimated the reaction to missing the PC port launch coupled with people seeing how disappointing the localization is relative to the game's amount of story (more than ever before in Ys).
Dont forget that cold steel 1 was delayed as well. So players have to work to find ♥♥♥ audio while dev just stay chill? Okay...
You can apparantly blame Kadokawa for that one. They supposedly got pretty pissed with XSSED over a contract they refused to sign.
