Ditto here. :(

I get the exact same issue on Linux Mint 17 KDE, 64 bit, both with Intel and Nvidia on an Optimus laptop.

EDIT: I was able to get it to run by replacing libsteam_api.so in the amd64/ sub directory with the corresponding file from Time Mysteries: The Ancient Spectres.

To find more games with the exact same library as Time Mysteries, I ran these two commands:

flesk@flesk:~/Steam > md5sum Time\ Mysteries\ The\ Ancient\ Spectres/amd64/libsteam_api.so 3929e868725326e55a94d83bd09c7fce Time Mysteries The Ancient Spectres/amd64/libsteam_api.so flesk@flesk:~/Steam > find -type f -name libsteam_api.so -exec md5sum {} \; | grep 3929e868725326e55a94d83bd09c7fce 3929e868725326e55a94d83bd09c7fce ./Time Mysteries The Ancient Spectres/amd64/libsteam_api.so 3929e868725326e55a94d83bd09c7fce ./Eversion/x86_64/libsteam_api.so 3929e868725326e55a94d83bd09c7fce ./Super Hexagon/x86_64/libsteam_api.so

Which shows that Eversion and Super Hexagon also include the same file, and there's a good chance other versions of the library from other games also work, but I haven't checked.

Steam achievements and the Steam overlay also work for me after replacing the file.

We are doing our best to make sure, that our games run perfectly on most Linux ditributions, however we are only able to fully support few versions, that are officially supported by steam. If time permits, we will look into this issue and try to resolve it for you guys

I think it works out of the box on Linux now, can anyone else confirm?

If you are still wondering, 9 months later:

It ran the first time for me with no problems. All subsequent attempts after have resulted in it running and quickly closing again.
