By "consumables", what do you mean? like the coal to go into the boilers?
Are you familiar with "what is it used for", which IIRC comes with seablock? it'll help you track down recipes much better than the search function. If not...add it in unless you're already familiar with angels+bobs.
You'll want to handcraft a lot of stuff in the early stages where possible, because you just plain won't have the electricity to support automating everything.
I actually don't remember wind turbines being included in that modpack, that may be new.
There...may have been some better way to make coal than process algae>turn into wood blocks->turn into coal->toss into boilers, but I really can't remember. That should be good enough to get you the coal you need for filters, at least. Someone else in the group did most of the work in terms of coal power, and you really, REALLY have to do your math or set up an independent production area to make sure you're actually producing net power.
Have not heard of those.. I'll check them out.
If you tech some more it turns into Charcoal Pellets (another +20% energy efficiency) Boiler MK2 is also +20% energy efficiency.
It is enough to go straight for steam engines but easy to run out of fuel if you mess up. Making more wind turbines is some initial cost but then it is forever free energy so that is pretty good also.
When only charcoal is used and MK1 boiler I think you gain ~37% energy above what you consume to make the energy, assuming all the charcoal is used at 50% efficiency in a MK1 boiler.
With Charcoal Pellets and Boiler MK2 I think you gain a little more than twice as much energy as you put in to make the fuel to power the steam engines.
These numbers are with everything considered, Electrolysers, Crushers, Algae Farms, Liquifiers, Assembling Machines and inserters.
I might be wrong with the numbers, but something like that.
...
Yeah, that's new. I'll trust your math on it. I bet that was added in to get rid of the idle-game feel of the early stages.
