NEED HELP with bobs/angel/seablock mods
ok, so I'm using the seablock mod with just about all angel and bob mods, but I can't figure out how to start producing electricity without using the wind turbines. I know I have to use steam engines and stuff, but I can't figure out how to start producing consumables without crafting them myself. I really want to start expanding the 1,000 tiles I'm on, but I can't get enough power going to start producing landfills that much. Am I missing something obvious?

The very early stages of that modpack tend to be...well...a bit of an idle game. Don't use the steam engines until you can use...IIRC the tier-3 stuff for it, because while you can produce coal if you use the wrong process to do it you'll use up more power than you get out of it.

By "consumables", what do you mean? like the coal to go into the boilers?

Are you familiar with "what is it used for", which IIRC comes with seablock? it'll help you track down recipes much better than the search function. If not...add it in unless you're already familiar with angels+bobs.

You'll want to handcraft a lot of stuff in the early stages where possible, because you just plain won't have the electricity to support automating everything.

I actually don't remember wind turbines being included in that modpack, that may be new.

I mean wood, coal etc... stuff that can be burned in furnaces, boilers, etc. So you're saying stick with wind turbines until I get the tier-3 boilers?
Wind turbines and solar panels, yes.

There...may have been some better way to make coal than process algae>turn into wood blocks->turn into coal->toss into boilers, but I really can't remember. That should be good enough to get you the coal you need for filters, at least. Someone else in the group did most of the work in terms of coal power, and you really, REALLY have to do your math or set up an independent production area to make sure you're actually producing net power.

Factorio NEI (FNEI) is also a GREAT mod that is similar to the What Is It Used For.

Have not heard of those.. I'll check them out.
been awhile since i played seablock but iirc the 1st thing i did was automate the carbon for boilers .. it burns longer then coal and is was easy to automate
if anyone is starting a casual multiplayer of seablock id love to join one =)
Green algae turns into Cellulose Fiber that turns into Wood Pellets (twice as high energy value as Cellulose Fiber) that turn into Wood Bricks that turn into Charcoal (+20% energy efficiency), Charcoal -> Carbon I think is ~5% higher energy efficiency.
If you tech some more it turns into Charcoal Pellets (another +20% energy efficiency) Boiler MK2 is also +20% energy efficiency.

It is enough to go straight for steam engines but easy to run out of fuel if you mess up. Making more wind turbines is some initial cost but then it is forever free energy so that is pretty good also.

yeah that chain is what i did i think its great once you get it going cause it is self sustaining and just keeps producing more and more

Are you taking into account all the energy used to process each step? If windmills are now part of the pack, those numbers could well have been changed since I played, but back then you fell about 5-10% short if you went straight for that chain.

Woodpellets -> Charcoal = 21.875% gain in energy after considering cost to make. Charcoal Pellets shouldn't really lose a noticable amount either when made. Boiler MK2 is ofcourse no loss.

When only charcoal is used and MK1 boiler I think you gain ~37% energy above what you consume to make the energy, assuming all the charcoal is used at 50% efficiency in a MK1 boiler.

With Charcoal Pellets and Boiler MK2 I think you gain a little more than twice as much energy as you put in to make the fuel to power the steam engines.

These numbers are with everything considered, Electrolysers, Crushers, Algae Farms, Liquifiers, Assembling Machines and inserters.
I might be wrong with the numbers, but something like that.
Wait.Charcoal pellets?

...

Yeah, that's new. I'll trust your math on it. I bet that was added in to get rid of the idle-game feel of the early stages.

Thank you everyone! Think I might just try angels/bob's without seablock to get the feel for it and learn it a little better at first.
tbh i found it easier in seablock to learn stuff. playing it on a normal map just lets you skip key steps that you need to learn but gl

Yeah, that what I thought, but I have no clue as to what stuff does. I"ve played with bobs mods before but not Angel. I figure if I play on a map with unlimited space, I"ll be able learn easier what I can do with angels mods.
