Oh - and it's about logistic bots and production, of course. Supplying the construction robots is trivial and doesn't really interest me; i am doing that with personal roboports and for that even a manual mall is fine.
But logistics chests with a filter will get the thing you filter for (if no other chest already has the item in it), so I use that with circuit network on the inserters putting things into chests to limit how much the inserters put in there.
The devs have commented that making logistics bots probably was a mistake, but too many people really like them to make it viable to remove them, so they've stayed. Having the requester chests later in the tech tree is probably part of their gameplay vision, since that means you'll have to do a lot more with just belts and such, and making tagliatelle everywhere to get stuff where you need.
There might be a mod that can help you if you feel that strongly that you need the requester chests earlier, though.
Thank you very much for your explanations. I already suspected that it would come down to the logistics boxes with filters - but I just don't understand how it's supposed to work. The bots simply take things to the nearest suitable chest; only when this is full do they fly on to the next one. How am I supposed to distribute things even halfway sensibly like that? Do you know of a possibility i dont see (yet)?
You love your "tagliatelle" - thats ok. But i dont. I do prefer a clean and proper production site; to me a very prominent aspect of gameplay is it, to avoid crossings of belts or rails as much as possible. Beyond a certain complexity this is frankly impossible, and thats the point of frustration and no return (to this play-not-through).
So i just can hope, that someone comes up with a (for me) viable idea to manage the bots, or with a mod.
While I can understand why the developers want to nerf the bots (even if I don't like it), I can't understand why they do such half-hearted things. If they don't like the bots - just get rid of them. At least then you know what's going on. But like this... If I'm supposed to eat less to lose weight, I'm not going to put truckloads of food on the table and over-salt it. Oh well...
