Should sulfur be on my main bus?
Let me preface this by saying that I have never gotten to researching with blue science packs, and I came up with this question while I was planning to make a blue science pack factory.

Every guide I've seen involving the main bus design (for example, this one) does not say or show anything about putting sulfur on a bus. Is there a reason people don't put sulfur on the bus? How do people supply the assembly lines for blue science packs and explosives if sulfur is not on the bus?

Thanks in advance.

Heya, I wrote that guide long before the changes to science, so it's a tiny bit outdated (until I have time to change it).

What I have done in my past few factories is put petroleum and water on the bus and make sulfur on-site. However, since so little sulfur is needed, you can also put it on the bus as sulfur crystals (on a belt).

It's entirely up to you.

(I usually make explosives in the oil area).

I also make sulfur on site, I think its kinda ugly and wouldnt want a belt of it :)

In the past, I put sulfuric acid on my train bus, but made sulfur on site. I'm currently doing Krastorio 2 though which changes the dynamic quite a bit, and will likely be putting Sulfur on the train bus.

Personally I think it depends on the demand for it. If you find yourself using sulfur in a lot more recipes than a handful, you likely will want to centralize it's production. Otherwise making it on site is preferable.

I already put Lubricant and sulfuric Acid on my bus (Pipe to Grounds rather than belts). I would rather not double the liquids on my bus by including Water and either Crude Oil or Petroleum Gas. I prefer to use belts (and I'm not about to barrel my fluids) so I will belt Sulfur and Explosives on my bus.

Sulfur for science, Explosives for various things, including artillery munitions.

It can be a pain having pipes on the buss, especially if you commonly drive a car or tank through your base. I crash into them all the time! Fortunately the bots repair them for me.

But I plan a "liquid" buss so all of my pipes are in a dedicated spot. Its not too big of a deal to have 4 pipes (Water, Petro, Lube, Sulfuric Acid) going along with the belts.

Thanks, this is all good advice. I'm glad to hear you guys are speaking from experience. Making explosives next to the oil processing zone sounds like a good idea, as for chemical science packs I was considering having a train take sulfur there but making it on-site would probably work better. But I gotta disagree with sulfur looking ugly, I think it's pretty cool.

Also, it's cool that you responded, KatherineOfSky, I'm a huge fan! I've found your guides (though some are outdated) to be helpful with pointing me in the right direction.

Major advantage of Train bus. After all, you can't run into railroad tracks. You just have to watch out for trains. :) If you're smart you can setup railroad crossings for vehicles and players too.

I too always crash my car into pipes. I do now build road grids and try to stay on them.

In my current playrhrough on Krastorio 2, I don't use a main bus at all.. But the Transport Drone mod. I actually like this better. I make ćthings' in a grid and tie them into the transport system. Then I request them where I need them.

There's a vehicle snap mod which is really nice for driving.

Interesting. I generally build a road between my railroad tracks, and railroad crossings at the junctions. Later on, I build a mass transit system where I have stops for a train that I, or other players if I'm in multiplayer, can call a special train to, to take us where we need to go.

Someone recommend a mod for a pax train system, e.g. allows you to call a train with a button. I can look it up if you are interested.

Forgive me, but don't logistics robots exist? They sound like they do the same thing.

Since you need it for very few things it's probably easier to just pipe water and sulfuric acid along the belt since you need some of that for blue circuits anyways.

I have a hub at my main base that I have named "Grand Central Station" its several platforms dedicated to passenger trains only. They wait there and when you board one it automatically sets out for its destination area. When you get out at the destination it automatically returns to Grand Central Station. Each outpost has its own dedicated passenger station so clicking on the passenger station reveals all the trains that have that station in their consist. Since there is only one passenger train assigned to each passenger destination the only train that shows up as using that station is the one that serves that platform and its a simple matter to open its schedule and click the next destination arrow to bring it back to the outpost when you are ready to go back.

Very similar in a lot of ways, the transport drones have some caveats like only driving on fixed pathways that you can't use to build anything else on.
