Endgame?
Just wondering, is there an endgame? Dont know why but whenver there is an end to a game like this i never want to play because i always keep thinking to myself that everything im doing is pointless because once i beat it, its done... but when i know i cant beat it i just keep progressing lol

It depends how good and quick you are in the game. You can start the rocket after 10 hours or so, if you are really quick, but mostly it will take around 20 hours and more.

But you don't need to fire up the rocket and play on as long as you want. Even if you fire the rocket you can say you want to play on, finish research if not done already and optimize your factory.

I'm around 100 hours in the game and still enjoying it, especially in online multiplayer.
i believe a speed run was 2 hours

Yes, but those use cheats to have all research done :)

*edit*
Ok, found a video in around 2 hours without a cheat, that's really fast. But then again those speedruns are not about enjoying the game.

I have 65 hours in the game, have started maybe a dozen factories, and have yet to launch a rocket.

And I am still hooked. The game is all about making everything work smoothly to me. If I have a copper belt that is running dry, I just HAVE to find the reason and fix it. I have ignored research for hours just because I was on a mission to accomplish something else.

I got the game 3 days ago, I have 33 hours, I started with the campaign, level 2 of new hope took me almost 16 hours haha, but I'm a slow poke too XD I started freeplay now, but there is 2 other campaigns I didnt do, but I guess that will keep me busy for some time also. I'm doing everything really slow in freeplay I know this game will keep me busy for more than 100 hours cause I want 100 trains and try to fill up the infinite map haha. There is also custom scenarios, also haven't tried them yet.

I've read somewhere that the devs are going to add a space platform later or eventually (correct me if I'm wrong). So that will also make me want to restart all over again, and they will add steam achievements also, which I want to try to 100% when that arrives :D There will be mods also some day, they want players who have this game on steam and not on steam to enjoy it all the same so it will be added, so there's another 100 hours plus when I get bored IF I get bored which seems impossible I LOVE THIS GAME :D

The game already has mods

I think the RSO mod is something everyone should consider. It spreads the ore and oil out so you are practically forced to rush railways and employ trains to get raw materials to a centralized location. https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=13783

Together with that I suggest using the FARL mod to help in building the physical railways in a more comfortable manner. https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=13553

Then for anyone who played through the vanilla and wants more challenge there are several huge mods that make the game a lot more complex.

Even without mods by the time you get to the end, 0.13 releases could very well be already out with whatever new stuff they've added to the base game.

This is the only EA game I have ever gotten and was not scared to beat it fully before release. There is so much GAME here, that it isn't a disappointment the further you progress.

If the next big update adds a fleshed out endgame, then that is dozens more hours of playtime, and I won't feel that I wasted any of it on an "inferior" version by playing early.
