what is the average length for a unmodded game? from beginning to launching a spaceship as a beginner to the game?

The average beginner never finishes the game. Those that do usually take anywhere between 20 to 200 hours but can be longer.

I tend to play these style of games fairly 'slow'. The first time I launched a rocket it was around 45 hours.
My current play through which I'm continuing on still, I launched the first rocket in about 44 hours so pretty much the same as my first.

So for myself, it takes about 45 hours to "finish" the game, and I suspect my next go will be about the same.

edit; I'm also far from a "hardcore" or "expert" player with these games, and my setups are completely un-optimised.

The average will vary depending on the initial settings for the map, resource locations, size and richness, and the settings for the bugs.

I never finished my very first game. Every time I researched a new science pack I realized that my current set up wouldn't go all the way through to rocket launch and started again with the new knowledge gained from that attempt.

depends on your focus. efficiency really doesn't matter if you are just after the rocket launch goal. my first was 450 hours or so, but there wasn't a need for the rocket launch for science packs for endless research at that point.

you can just bang some stuff together to get your end result if you want, 20 hours or so is probably enough to make that happen. if you want to make something efficiently or something you can easily scale up, hundreds or more.

It takes a while. There is lots to do if you are worried the game is too short. You will get lost in the automation and you will always find ways to redefine your pathways to the point where you can never tire of it.

I recently binged 4 different plays that averaged 90 hours each. I also play the game on different time speeds so there is also that.

It took me only a few hours to launch the first rocket in vanilla Factorio using tricks and techniques from speedrunner.

I am currently enjoying the slow pace in the harder-to-rush Seablock with quality of life mods and complimentary mods like fluid power.

I think the goal for me is to finish vanilla and work towards some mods. I had a friend show me how to improve my setup and how to scale things up and I’m hoping I can finish in ~60

First Rocket took my over 100h i think.

Did the 8h achievment within 6h. But that was when i already had over 1000h experience :)

60 to 120 hours to launch the first rocket for a complete beginner. Some people never finish it.

It is possible to complete the game significantly faster, if you know what you're doing.

It depends how meditative do you play. You may quickly move towards and build new things, or you may sit and stare how does your factory work, thinking of what to do next and how to do this the best way. To me it took 40 hours, but it was not my first playthrough, the first one I abandoned somewhere between oil and drones.

Some websites state 40-50 hours. I don't know how they gather that information.

I don't even have myself as an example since when I started playing I played a different version of the game that most notably had alien science. I also didn't have it myself but played a friend's game, so when I bought the game for myself after the 0.15 update I obviously already had some experience. I can see from my achievements that I bought the game oct 16, finished it the first time oct 24, got the 15h achievement oct 27 and the 8h one nov 12.

The point is that factorio is not a game you just finish once. As you play you learn how to do things better so you want to play again and implement those thoughts. You can still be considered a beginner when you reach the rocket for the 3rd time.

Also in my opinion launching the rocket is only the beginning of the game. Where factorio shines and is unique is how large you can build. Other games would stammer at a couple fps once you get to thousands of items moving at once. This game can handle 100 000 items moving at once and still be at 60 fps.

If you are doing whatever you want, it can be very long
Lunacy Jul 24, 2022 @ 6:51pm
My first run with no hints or guides was about 73 hours, but I did grab a friend's yellow science blueprint to speed it up because what i had was atrociously slow
subsequent runs seem to fall in the 20-35 hour ranges.

You are assuming that you can finish Factorio-that is wrong. Just launching 1 rocket is not really the goal of the game.
