With Games, there are a few programs that are meant specifically to run windows games on Linux.. (they shouldn't be too hard to find) OR windows 10 is technically free for a month, then you get a watermark on the bottom right, but it still runs everything.

unnecessary, steam play (similar to wine) is built into steam and works well enough in almost all cases that wine or playonlinux or other frontends aren't as necessary as they once were. for those unfamiliar, its an checkbox in each game's option to enable, and steam installs and runs the game as if you were running windows. naturally not all games work, and those that do may have performance penalties.

As far as I can tell it should be, there was a bug repport on the official forums about the steam version and ubuntu 18.04 (I assume it's that and not 18.0.4) but it was fixed by opting out of the beta for the steam client itself.

Try with Ubuntu 20.04 if you have problems with two year old 18.04
AlexMBrennan Jun 2, 2020 @ 1:15pm
Ubuntu 18.04 is supported until 2023 so it's a bit disingenuous to imply that LTS linux distributions need to immediately be updated to the latest release.

Nobody said you need to update, I only wrote "try with". Even with LTS there are many differences between versions.

Used to run fine on 18.04, but haven't used that version in a while. I don't see any 'red flag" dependencies, so I don't think there should be a problem.

outside of repositories, you'll get either .deb's, .rpm's or tarballs. .debs and .rpms are base-distro specific, while tarballs work on all, generically speaking of course.

thx

if you use the game through steam, you won't need to mess around with manual installs, it will do it for you.

ok good

Why do you ask this question? You had any issues so far? You don't need Steam Play, just install native Linux version. Clicking Install and Play in Steam all you need to do.

Since he doesn't own the game I assume he is doing his research since only "Linux (tarball installation)" is listed in the recommended specs before buying.

yeah, that might be something that needs to be corrected or changed. steam handles it all for you, but if you download it from the dev's, you'll get the tarball.
