New .17 Boiler/Steam Engine Ratio
So if Boilers are now 100% efficient instead of 50%, does that mean I can add twice the number of engines to the layout?
As in it was 1 pump>20 boilers>40 engines.
Then now its 1>20>80?

Or is this efficiency toward fuel use???

Efficiency is a measure of how much energy is converted to what you want it to be.
50% efficiency means only half of the energy you put in is being turned into usable energy.
The other 50% is lost due to entropy.
The ratio is now 2>20>80 unless the Off-Shore Pumps now provide 24.000 L max.

I think the pumps are still 1200/s and support up to 40 engines.

Yes, a singular Setup.
My Steam setup was 10 Boilers each side so without changing it it would be 2>20>80 now.
Althought then again you're right.

After some quick tests.

We could only run 2 steam engines off of 1 boiler. This is under a near max load.
So i don't think that ratio changes.

Something else we saw in the patch notes tho is that fuel, besides nuclear, was all halved in its value. Coal is now 4MJ, not 8MJ.

Does this mean that the halving of fuel values just cancels out the new 100% boilers?

Yes. They wanted to simplify calculations without changing game balance in any way.

Is the boiler supposed to burn through a 50 coal stack in less than a minute? This is what happened after the last update.

In the base game, this efficiency mechanic is almost completely useless, so we decided to remove it. To keep the previous balancing on the same level, all the fuel values have been halved, and the efficiency set to 100%.

It was an old idea to have multiple tiers of generator with different fuel efficiency.

All ratios are the same, the difference is that the fuel value displayed is now half of what it was before, and behind the scenes they arent multiplying by half.( saving some computation)
