I totally get what you mean, but right now I'm mostly focusing on the gameplay as best I can. Granted, things meeting expectations is important too. For example, having a makeshift toilet need stuff from the second area, which it never uses, does feel a bit off.
The thing I found the most jarring was the 'higher quality' batteries. I can let a good amount of 'video game logic' go by, but those things just felt bad.
Vacuums also don't use air compressors. They spin a motorized brush/fan to create a pressure difference. The grinder is is a bit silly and wouldn't perform well in reality, but the basic idea is propelling a projectile with compressed air. Those two things aren't really related. I will say that needing chain for an air compressor seem a little odd to me, however. I'm not an expert, but I've done a small amount of work on and around them. Unless chain is used on a few parts I've not had to work with, my guess is they're substituting it for a belt. In fact many things seem like a light substitute, most likely to avoid over-complicating crafting.
Overall, I'd actually give the devs some praise for being much closer to realistic than most other survival games' crafting systems.
Well, the use of tape over glue is sometimes valid. Impact force can break glue joints, but enough good duct tape can make surprisingly strong attachments. It is surprising how little glue gets used in crafting, though.
And in this case, it make some sense. Except it doesn't use horse hooves.
You're expecting WAY too much realism from this game.
