You can either kill bots automatically with base defenses or simply place a workbench close enough that the robot will usually not respawn.
So if you had a spot in the locked and security shuttered Level 2 office over looking the chasm or the Level 2 open Kitchen area next to the Data Farm, you best want to get out of sight of the patrol or set up a trap for the night.
As for bots knowing where you are from a long distance, I have never see that happen. Granted, I haven't played in a few hours either so maybe something changed. Every other time I've seen the bot near the Manufacturing Gate activate, half the time it gets confused and just stands there looking around. Other times it will make its patrols and that patrol walks right up to the front door of my base (with the security shutters). It would walk in if it saw my base, but the gate is closed and I have stuff outside to distract and kill it.
The patrols are more or less set, and the AI for the bot behavior is really simple. If the light is yellow, they are just doing their patrols. If the light is red, they are doing their attack. If for some reason they always head right to your base, then that's the patrol they take, and not them knowing you are there from the start..
Any structure that is player-placed can be attacked by enemies. If you pick up a table and then place it back down, enemies will attack it.
Did you remove the couch that separates the locker room from the kitchen? Because if you keep the couch there, robots might be aggro'd but they won't reach your base, they'll try to walk around and eventually fight aliens on the way. (but you should still protect the other entrances to your base)
Alternatively, you can make a base in the gym upstairs, which is a lot safer, or in the conference room near the plaza.
