We started in the cafeteria but qiuckly realized that would not suit our needs so we moved into the the interconnected office rooms next to the executive office.
It has a charging station, electrified water for easy robot kills each night, next to a bathroom, plenty of space, tainted water right next to base, plenty of power plugs, etc.
It has been exceptional for us...
But having just unlocked the train portal world, we are thinking of moving our entire base to the central tram location and building a bridge over the pit to tram side b (so we don't have to circle around to side b every time)
Also we have collected 10 water dispensers at our base and we each carry a barrel in our hotbar which we fill up with any clean water sources we find and empty out into our water dispensers when we hit base.
i would like to move from there since it feels too safe and my defenses feel like waste of time majority of the time, i wana big base with alot of enemies around
My second base, I built just above the blacksmith. It seemed like that's what that space is for, because it's entirely devoid of any loot despite needing a level two hacking tool. It's got enough room for me. I have zero issue with enemies there. It's near a charging station. It's a good central location for most of where I've traveled so far. It's very close to the forklift spawning spot. And obviously just above the blacksmith's trading spot. It's also directly attached to the tram network. . There's some good loot farming potential with the specific enemies in that area.
Edit: Also both locations are next to a bathroom and tainted water for washing.
I recommend basing in the Aquarium lobby in Labs. Good source of water, easy tram access, and good access to the entirety of the Labs sector.
The only issue is it's a little bit tricky to get the workbenches in place because there are enemy spawns right there, but traps are really essential to keeping that base secure.
While you do only have the one entrance (so trapping is easier) you do have to deal with the Leyak constantly poking around, sometimes you get night invasions from either the Order or more devastatingly, a massive horde of zombies if you haven't sealed Holmholtz properly..
It just has good access to unlimited tainted water and the tram.
Second base at the third area, above the aquarium, at the empty area at the windows with 2 sockets. There is also unlimited tainted water there.
I have both bases at the same time, I use 2 of the gimmicks you get to move between them until I have moved completely to the new base.
The X-Ray helps to defeat that and it drops by doing so.
That's the only base we've had and have no intention of moving it.
There's tainted water near the blacksmith? Where?
I'm playing self imposed permadeath so I actually brought a crafting/repair/cooking station with me (this time) and a few file cabinets and stairs to base right above the base location that they give you. I just kinda laughed and mentally face palmed after getting the lvl 2 hackerman. I assumed that door let you into the blacksmith's area, because of the locked door to the left of him. Too lazy to move all my ♥♥♥♥ off the roof though. Plus those 2 pests still spawn, albeit less frequently, so I don't want to prevent that free convenient food source. Do they still spawn for you?
Big enough and near the trams.
It's nice and open, with 3 extra workbenches dotted around, nothing spawns. It's very safe and has quick access to the pool and a toilet, not to mention elevator.
Only concern is it's quite a run to manufacturing, but i don't think any base is close.
The locker room is actually a decent location as long as you keep the couch that's blocking the entrance to the kitchen. The robot will wander around, sure, but it'll often be busy with enemies in the Data Farms. Just make sure to protect the other 2 entrances using Chopinators, since enemies will occasionally try to come from those directions.
Anyway, I have mine placed in the Security Office at level 2. Even with the changes to the shutters, it's still a very good location - lots of space, easy to protect, has a conveniently placed charging station and two vending machines, lots of extra storage in the lockers. Plus it has an easy access to Manufacturing.
I also have a temp base in Manufacturing, in the kitchen, although I hardly ever use it.
Not sure if my base will still be as good when I reach Labs, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
