The area you access through the laser puzzle is optional, yes. In any case, you can solve the puzzle by just stacking 2 small crates on top of each other then placing the reflector as close to the source of the laser as you can.
You know you've reached the end of the current content when you've talked to the Sister of the Unlost.
Was the laser puzzle patched? I tried the stacking crates solution. (A) The laser is emitted about 6 inches too low for that to work and (B) there's no way I know to align the laser exactly right -- is there a snap-to-grid in AF that I'm missing? -- and I hate fiddly puzzles. Perhaps a teammate will sort it out. For the staplers.
Strange. The zombie area just led to a zipline back. There was nothing we needed in the zone, and nothing seemed to unlock as a result of leaving. It wasn't relevant to progress to the Sister.
What zone is the zombie area supposed to unlock?
Did you press all the buttons in the area to access the elevator?
You need to do that, this will then grant you access to the Control Center, which is required to progress.
As for the laser puzzle, it requires some positioning of the Reflector, but it's doable. You don't have to go there if you don't want, but you do find an unique farming item there. You can just wait for the laser update if you want.
We unlocked the elevator to open the portal to go home. Is the Control Center the area with the gun turrets? We completed that area long before we figured out how to get to the zombie area. Seemed like Flathill all over again: just don't stop running and it's fine.
... Wait, how did you get to the Control Center without going through the Furniture Store? (Furniture Store = the place with zombies)
If that's not what the Control Center is, then AFAIK you don't need it.
The Control Center is where you go to disable those same turrets.
You shouldn't be able to survive the turrets, even with FORGE armor. This feels like something that needs to be reported to the devs.
But also... You saw a path protected by turrets and your first instinct was to rush through it instead of finding a way to disable them? Not criticism, just strange since it's the first time I've heard of someone doing this.
Old school gamers, I guess. Figured the button to turn them off was on the other side, but finding a tram stop was just as good. Flathill taught us this game has enemies you can't fight and will kill you if you stop running, this just seemed like the same thing.
Or, to put it a different way, you saw an area protected by turrets and you didn't try running past them? After learning to run past the Flathill critters? Why ever not? Do you really think the devs put places to duck out of turret LOS every so often by mistake? I mean, we ran through and the turrets stopped with 10% health left, seemed clear that was what we were supposed to be doing.
The game never suggests you to run past the Composers, actually. Flathill is an area where it's suggested for you to use stealth. Running is generally a last resort. (although, once you have all shortcuts unlocked and you're used to it, running past them is less of an issue)
The Containment block doesn't really have any areas for you to duck out of turrets, it's an open space with multiple turrets. There IS an area where you have to take cover from gunfire... But it's in Rise, the area you access through the laser puzzle.
I'm an oldschool gamer myself, but honestly, if I went through an area where fighting or stealth weren't options and survived with only 10% HP left, I would probably have thought "there has to be an easier way to do this, maybe I missed something before".
Also, you probably only survived because you're playing in a group. Solo players or smaller groups would likely have been turned into swiss cheese.
?? I've run through it solo many times. There are may short paths set up to allow this, though once you find the tram there's no need.
How strange. I never found stealth worked for anything in this game, so I don't bother. You run faster then they do, so there's no problem ... until you hit a dead end. Freaking library.
