Super tomatoes are a great renewable food. I have two super tomato plants and they provide 20 food and 20 thirst for each tomato, and each plant bears two tomatoes at a time.

That kinda depends on where you are in the game.

Are you at the beginning? Then you're just gonna have to deal with cooked meat from the aliens you kill until you can start making soup. You can also alternatively buy food from vending machines, but I'd advise leveling up your Cooking so you can make soup.

Once you can make soup, finding food becomes a much lesser problem.

And once you can plant Super Tomatoes, like Great Dane mentioned above, you can also just eat those too.

Soup is your friend. Kill and dismember ayyliums for delicious meats, boil them in a pot of water, add a pinch of salt for flavor :D

I watching youtuber playing and they usually eat from vending or they coop and got chef. I saw that if u high skill in cook u can cook better steak like it better in quality but I would suggest to advance the game cuz late game stuff are that good or just keep stabbing corpse with spear and u will have enough meat. The anti rads pill are everywhere anyway if u get little rad or fight smart like spamming nail tripwire trap

When you find the forge and blacksmith, interact with the pot of solder for level 3 cooking (instant level ups).

Make Soups using various recipes, the guides are there already, but easy ones are:

Sustenance soup - Throw in a military MRE.
Goulash - throw in raw pest rump and raw pest and salt.
Sugary Slop - Throw in the three vending machine snacks (not the green farmer one).
Bland / Split Pea soup - Throw in the canned peas, salt. (Optional: + raw pest for split peas variant).
Effect: Sprint & Sneak EXP up for bland. Hunger/Thirst slowed for split.

Canned peas are super common in this game btw, so making the split peas soup is your best bet.

You need soup bowls to eat from it, as there are 8 total servings (4 portions divided by 2 servings per bowl).

Soups and vending machine snacks do not give radiation.
Robots drops 4 soda cans every time, so use traps to kill them.

Sugary Slop is done with Doznuts, Jowlers and Skip.

Meaty Stew is the best for hunger and thirst, with a combination of a single bowl having (60 H + 20 T) x 2 servings.
