Great game that hits a wall of boredom (Leyak)
Really enjoyed the game so far although it had some parts where the guidelines on how to progress where so unclear that I had to turn to Google. Still, no real trouble until the laboratories and the need to get to the control center. I'm at the part where you need 4 Leyak Essences to open the X-Ray gate. That was hours ago. Finally figured out what I needed and built an Xray tower to zap the bug eyed little git. Almost impossible to drop it build it and plug it in before the guy disappeared. Managed to get one essence to build an XRay lamp, now waiting around for him to randomly turn up. Nothing else to do till he shows. There he is! Nope disappears as soon as I pull out the lamp. I've managed to zap him once, still need three more and its basically just sitting around until he appears. Why on earth is this section designed like this? An unnecessary and easily avoidable waste of the players time.

Have you eaten the eye fruit? Should make farming the Leyak much easier.

Recent changes I think broke the encounter a bit, now making it too skidish.

Your best bet is to restart your game, since it does tend to stop working after awhile, set up an X-Ray turret (or two) at your base, and do some sorting or redesigning of your base.

It should show up every 15 minutes or so and if you just let it approach, it will get zapped by the turrets.

The eye fruit, which I'm assuming needs an eye seed, and the only way I can get one of them is through using a machine to exchange a Leyak essence, i.e. one of the things I'm trying to farm? I've already used one to make the Xray lamp. This is such a convoluted an excessively time-consuming way to get four drops it just reeks of poor design.

I've found he doesn't even drop an essence every time. The last time I zapped him he disappeared with nothing left behind. So I guess I should find pieces to make a couple of Xray turrets, and then wait about 45 minutes, switching the game on and off, for the last three drops....

Maybe this is less annoying when playing with a group but, as I said, this is the biggest and most dramatic drop in progress/time I've encountered. Thank god it didn't pop up earlier or I might have given up on the game.

There should be 'eye seeds' in those cases in the lab. They aren't common, but they are there.

Though, I didn't recommend it because by the time you grow one I feel as though you should have already gotten the stuff you need to progress.

Well, thats twice in a row now he's disappeared after getting zapped without dropping anything... There is literally nothing to do in game (I don't need anything else) apart from stand around waiting for this thing to reappear. If the Devs read this...is this the intended play pattern?

I've had thst happen a few times. Reload the game just in case. Then what I've done was to purposefully get close enough to aggro it (have good health) and just blasted it with the xray gun. The gun freezes it and will drop the essence

Basically, the Leyak is the easiest enemy in the game and folks get really mad at the fact they are getting clowned by the easiest enemy in the game; so they tried to make him not really attack at all and it just made it really hard to collect his resource.

Also, I like how the OP's post made it sound like the game made no attempt to tell him that X-Rays hurt the Leyak

This is the second time I'm hearing that people are using the X-Ray and it isn't dropping Essences, so I'm thinking something is bugged. Basically, if you flash X-Ray on it, it should drop Essence.

But yeah, the game does absolutely tell you that X-Ray is its weakness.

I always keep an X-Ray tower in my base since it appears for me often and by the time I get to the section that requires 4 of them, I had loads of Essence in stock already.

You see and get the plans for the X-ray turret even before you enter the area. Why didn't you build it once you go the mats? (even just out of curiosity) I'm not even close to the control center and have already multiple more essences than I need only from the turrent at home.

This is a bug or you are looking at him before the gun gets him. He ALWAYS dropped an essence for me.

Not everyone plays the same way. Also they might not have gotten all the parts just yet (or did the little brain storm thing to fully unlock it).

Much of this wouldn't have been an issue if Leyak didn't suddenly get shy and go poof half the time. And I think that changed happened because of people complaining about being ambushed by it.

I am wondering how the stats look on the devs side. Have the deaths by Leyak went down?

To be fair, the game also teaches you to look at the Leyak as a way of dealing with it. I also didn't expect to have to get 4 essences and actively didn't because they have no use outside of this or the seeds.

I get jumped by the leyak about two to three times per in-game day on average, and significantly more from just eating an eye fruit. If you have an x-ray flashlight on you at all times, you should be able to get past the door within a few in-game days.

I keep an x-ray turret hooked up in the middle of my base with a battery charge and I get about one essence a day passively from that just doing crafting or farming tasks, but it could be more or less depending on the layout of your base and where the leyak spawns. My base is typically in the office security room, so sometimes the leyak will spawn way in the distance by the robot and despawn by the time it can pathfind to me.

Also yeah, there's at least two eye seeds in the labs that you don't need to exchange for, and the eye fruit itself decons into a lot of seeds as well so you can mass produce if you wanted to.

It seems there are some people who use the XRay on the Leyak before it becomes a necessity (to pass the XRay gate). Maybe those are people who hate getting spooked by it. For me it was never a threat, just look at it till it goes away. As such it was only once I hit the XRay gate I needed 4 drops. At that point there is nothing else to do (if you've a stable and secure base) apart from wait around. I had to encounter it 4 more times to get two drops. Just to reiterate, the problem here from a gameplay perspective is not anything to do with the Leyak itself or the Xray items, its requiring 4 drops when 2 would do just as well, the fact that it sometimes doesn't drop, the inconsistent timing of its appearances and the only way you can speed that up being as time consuming as simply waiting around. Its annoying because its the only area of the game where I went from - difficult but very fun because I'm not sure where I need to go or because I have to traverse dangerous areas with a mixture of explore, stealth, fight and build, to - difficult because I need to wait for a spawn to occur that may or may not drop one of several items I need. It the old "Adventurer I need you to kill 20 rats" type of fetch quest that is purely grinding and it could easily be fixed with a slight tweak by Devs. Anyway, I'm finally past it now, so for anyone else who encounters the same issue and ends up in this thread, you have my sympathies.

I understand your frustration, but there is little to generalize about it.

1. You encounter two bugs. It should spawn regularly and it should always drop an essence when using the gun. They should be fixed and few people have these. Remove these bugs from your experience and think about it again.

2. Is there really nothing you can do in the meantime? Get some furniture, farm some mats, cook, explore something. There is usually always something to do. And when you leave the base, just take the gun and a battery with you.

3. The game even gives you an item to speed up the encounters

I admit, I have ran into this bug several times after the update, but didn't think it was much of an issue. I actually thought the reduced stare/lamp times and instant disappearances were great!

I recently recorded and submitted an instance of Leyak not dropping that ball when hit by the X-ray lamp. I heard it, moved closer, saw it, looked away, got the lamp out, hit it with the light, approached, and it gave nothing as it quickly disappeared.

I think I has something to do with already triggering it to leave before the lamp counts as working. Leyak is now really sensitive to being stared at and approached. So much so that you can run right up to it around a corner, trigger it to attacking, and it disappearing half a second into the attack. I've literally had that happen a couple times or so.
