Report a translation problem
Long story short: You probably accidentally activated the quest of him calling for help and if you would have it is very debatable if you would have to save him anyway.
As far as I know he didn't have many connetions to other NPCs or large quest lines but I don't know if something bad happens when this guy dies.
I'd very much like to know this as well though, because I gave up on saving him after dying A LOT myself. (I was level 6..)
I wonder though, do you mean with "gate to the docks" the closed gate upstairs? Because they followed me there. (There is also this large camp of half a dozen skals which I at least managed to clear twice and later in the game I learned there is another way to get there but I don't know where this leads exactly.)
