Combat Difficulty
Okay so the combat in the game starts off pretty simple but the scaling system quickly makes even the most basic of enemies absolutely maddening to fight. I'm not saying they're hard, exactly, more that the combat is tedious and janky as heck. I mean I get leveling up enemies as the story goes on but really? Why are they ten levels higher than me no matter how many quests I do? I can't even grind them for XP! I get that you can easily level by eating the NPC's but it seems to kind of ruin the point of a STORY BASED GAME to have to spend hours and hours fighting cookie cutter grunts and not even be able to get anything out of it story-wise.

How can you call it a "pacifist" run or ending if I'm constantly cutting down bosses and random goons without any consequence or even CHOICE? I really wish the dev's would've given us more freedom with the game instead of pretending like our choices mattered and then forced us into the same linear paths regardless of what we do as a player. The invisibility doesn't even work on most of the enemies and stealthing past them is almost impossible- especially since you can't even open a freaking DOOR without someone instantly aggro-ing onto you. I got locked into an area and couldn't leave it for hours because too high enemies kept killing me over and over and the game wouldn't let me a) open a door to leave or recoup my health or b) shadow step to a place I just jumped off of by accident. And it's not like I could just reload my older save to escape it since individual saves aren't a thing in this game.

I'm just confused that a RPG or story based anything would have such heavy combat- especially since it doesn't even really add to the game as a whole. I mean, really, I can't so much as cough on a single NPC without losing the "true" good ending but I can kill over a thousand random citizens who are just trying to protect their city? That just doesn't make any sense. I mean, how do they even know I'm a vampire in the first place?? No one else even thinks twice about good ol' Doctor Reid but I so much as step foot onto a main street- that ANYONE could be walking down or live on- and suddenly twenty people instantly notice something weird about me? And from FIFTY FEET away? C'mon game devs.

I love the gothic vibe of the game, the story is pretty good, and the map isn't too bad despite how small it actually is. I just really wish they would stick to their own rules- or add something that would make some sense of me being able to kill a hundred random citizens without a district being effected. You really trying to tell me that not a single one of these chumps has a family? Friends? Any contribution to their district whatsoever??

I just wish the combat had an effect on the game other than to pad play time or punish the player for wanting a good ending.

Are you sure you're doing all the quests available? I just beat the game today, and I only killed one citizen intentionally, and I was never really in a situation like the one you're describing. I didn't grind either. The enemies were consistently a higher level than me, sometimes something like 8 or 9 levels above me, but I only really had a fair bit of trouble in the early game around when you get to whitechapel. Once I got past that part I don't believe I died throughout the rest of the game. Make sure your weapons are upgraded as much as possible. That helps a lot.

your title doesnt match your post...you mainly saying you dont like being force to do any type of grinding on pacifist run(that is feels out of place). will its not out of place being pacifist on this game mean not feed your hunger for blood on npcs but inorder to get to point a to b you need to survive/protect yourself from enemies that want to see you destoried/killed. like any other past vidieo games the boss fights are there always and inorder to be strong enough to beat them up you need to do quests/fight enemies/upgrade or grow in skill. pacifist means to not do voilence to anything that is not attacking you but it doesnt mean you stand there and let enemies beat the crap out of you either. in game i never right out attack any enemy i alway let them attack me first(including the bosses) then i protected myself. i had right to walk down that same street too; not going to hide/sneak inorder to do my patient runs or while im exploring to seek out answers that i need inorder to solve mysterys that need solving.

during game reed often said that ppl kept attacking him first and that was only reason why he attack back in the first place. he often told them stay back from him. during the war he was doctor first then solidier second.
