EDIT: not faster everything takes blood or stam so its not a passive and you also dont get super speed or most basic vampie buffs :{
There is one ability that absorbs hits which costs nothing to use. I only tried it at level one (where it is not as useful to me as other skills). But upgraded it's a reasonable defence. Also autophagy and biting people in combat allows survivability. I do die very quickly sometimes though.
I've seen many complaining about some of the major choices being unpredictable, and once again I don't understand why would it be a problem. No matter how good person you try to be, you can't always know what your words or deeds cause. Are people trying to get a perfect game on their first run and get frustrated if they can't? Maybe? I just go in blind and have fun. One of my favorite characters became a skal and I had to kill them, because I picked the wrong choice, thinking it was the best one. Still I don't see reason to be salty about it. Well played, game. Well played. *slow claps* I'll know what not to do next time. (;
I've also seen people complaining there's not enough crafting materials, and that they're hard to find. I dunno what difficulty they're playing or have they just been lazy, but at least on normal my bags were full of crafting materials and never had a shortage. I cured every person and also used serums. One of the most common reasons for complaints has been the combat system. I think it's fine. I've seen better, but I've also see worse. Especially considering Vampyr is a low budget game, it works really well. You get enemies down easily or relatively easily and are able to proceed in the game. At least I didn't encounter anything insurmountable. 2nd boss was the hardest boss imo and made me eat grass for a few times, until I noticed they're resistant to the talents I had picked. Switched the talents and the boss went down like a sack of ♥♥♥♥.
The only negative thing I could mention wasn't anything related to the story, characters, combat etc. but random crashes and fatal errors. Loading screens tended to crash sometimes. Solely because of this I wouldn't recommend paying a full price but getting it from discount. Otherwise it was totally worth the time and money.
Seein how this works, I think the fights will get more entertaining.
If you need to drink to enjoy a game... Then you prolly should not play that game, and just play one that you can have fun with out drinking or even more fun while drinking. IMO drinking doesnt make a game better though, that is a dice roll since drinking can make emotions strong so if you get upset easier at games, then drinking WILL make that worse and this game if you dont understand teh bossed you will get frustrated after several tries. Luckily the save points are literally right before the boss BUT the items and ammo you use do not get reset after death. So get use to just not healing too much with items, and when you use ammo try to use it if you know you will kill. I use shotguns to cheese the end of a fight since often those are the hardest stages of the fight.
Story is good, gameplay is good if you like light souls like combat.
NOTHING is going to be a darksouls clone period, some will be close and those can come really close can be said to be souls-like IMHO (eg: Sieko ) , and the rest like this game, "souls-lite"..... i think there Is definitely a place for both souls-like and souls-lite games..... some may have liked the whole idea and gameplay of souls games, but didnt have time or dexterity or whatever to finish actual souls games.... a souls-lite game, as I would classify Vampyr, could fill their interests, in a satisfactory way way.... even if they either 1) found the original souls and souls-like games to be too much for the time and/or ability they had to give to games at this time..... OR..... it could be that someone who could master Souls and souls-like games just wanted something less on the combat side so they could enjoy the social aspects/mystery/story-line/etc in a a souls-light game like this.
whatever the reasons, there are people that will enjoy this game, and people that will not.
I think a more clear description of the game on the 'store front' and in the reviews, would help a long ways in this, but even in the reviews, those get buried quickly.
Basically, good info upfront is what new players need, to know if this is the game for them or not. As both a fan of Dark-souls, and DS-lite games that balance it with significant RPG, mystery or other game elements, I love this game just as much.
I ALWAYS come to new / unfamiliar games on steam with an understanding that I have a 2-week/2-hour limit and set myself an alarm/countdown on my computer to prevent my going over - in case the game does not work for me (or even if I am uncertain, I can still return it, wait a few months, try again, there in nothing against doing this as I understand from reading and from practice).
I think that in addition to warning what kind of game it is, that the 2-week/2-hr test window is always worth reminding of new comers, so that they cannot go over the limit if they make sure to use a timer .... by that point, they should have refunded, ( either decided the game was not for them, or wait a bit, and tried again (setting that 2-wk/2-hr timer again), this 2nd time, coming at it with more knowledge and understanding that they should have picked up from asking questions during their first playthru and/or just after that, before trying a 2nd one.) If they still complain after that, then they are wanting the game to be something it is not and never will be, and should be directed to other games they'd enjoy better... if they refuse that advise and want to keep complaining, then IMHO they are just looking to troll. Not every game will be made for them (or anyone else)... there are LOTS of games out there, and they should focus on the ones made for the audience they are members of, rather then complaining about games that are made for audiences other than those they best fit into. LOL
I have no idea why it copied my reply several times, I'll try to delete the duplicates.
I play a variety of games and really enjoyed this one as well. I think the negativity cmes from people either expecting it to be more Dark Souls like or more Vampire:The Masquerade like.... it is NEITHER.... vampires are an ancient mythology across many cultures with many different aspects depending on which culture (even within europe let alone outside of). Plus many people coming u with new ideas for fictional pieces in the modern day. There is no ONE "right" way to write a Vampire strory/game.
Some will like this one, some will not.....just as I dont like V:tM, but I dont attack V:tM fans for likeing what they like. As long as it harms no one, let it be, imho
