In fact, you're more likely to find DRM'd games as the "most popular" torrent releases, rather than GOG non-DRMd installers. At least that's my impression the last time I bothered to check out of sheer curiosity (and a result of a similar argument in a conversation).
Personally, I have no inclination of putting malware on my computer the easy way. You know, downloading modified software from a dodgy source to "save" an insignificant percentage of my income in purchase price.
I prefer GOG because it gives me control over access to my game, and makes portability that much easier. Among other reasons I won't bother going into.
As it happens, I do. If I can get a title elsewhere, I'll get it there. Unfortunately, Steam has cornered an overwhelming share of the gaming market and a lot of titles are literally unavailable outside of Steam. So I get them here, mostly at a 75% discount, because not only do I not own the game (Steam can terminate my account at any moment), or have the ability to archive the installers the way I can on GOG, but also because I would prefer to encourage publishers to use other platforms where I do buy at normal prices.
I call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Sounds like paranoid overthinking at best.
Btw, no steam cannot freely terminate your access. First, any lawyer on the planet would take your free win case in a heartbeat.
Second, if they did that to more than a handful of users, ever, the backlash would be astronomical.
Unless you somehow provoke them into doing it, they arent going to ♥♥♥♥ on paying costumers. Thats not how for profit companies work in 'free' market.
You are 'allowed' to do and believe whatever youd like. No issue there. But I dont buy it for a second. Sounds like excuse making.
Just so we are clear... Im not going out of my way to bash you here but I dont see any of this adding up very well.
(Also, not a 100% sure why you brought up pricing but... that might just be how I read it. I dont think it was your 'point' so either way..meh.)
As with Sheepify, I primarily buy from Non DRM options(which is usually directed from distributor, like Beamdogs, Stardock etc) when possible. When not possible I buy stuff at a sale where it's difficult to pass it up(50%+ and I am extremely interessted in the game), or from gray markets(if it's a big publisher). I'll probably pick this up the moment it releases on GoG, or the moment it is 50-75% off the release price(sale or no sale, so probably a few years from now).
I'm getting quite tired of the whole "piracy" thing. If piracy is the reason not to release on GoG, then I got some bad news, this game is already up and playable for pirates, just as most other Steam exclusive games(few exceptions is\were denuvo games and whenever a new version of that comes, but as the latest one have been cracked, it's a matter of hours\days).
So if not releasing on GoG is to protect against piracy, they may as well release it now right? Considering it's already been pirated(They'd get me at day1 full price sale by doing that, instead of at 50-75% less).
--
Only exception I make on the half price stuff is DLC for games I already have on steam, before I started to prioritize non-steam options(where possible). Or very, very special cases(Paradox comes to mind).
Looks like GoG release is not needed for piracy at all.

Ladies and gentleman come and see the mind reader. If you think you know your own opinion more then he does... you're wrong. Why he can just will himself into knowing everything about you before even meeting you.
Meaning the only effect not having a DRM-free release will have is fewer potential purchases. But I'm not the publisher, so what do I know about my gaming habits, heh...
Yeah about that ... FYI the game got pirated 1 day before the official release.
Anyway, from the lack of official word, I assume GOG release isn't going to happen anytime soon.
Shame.
If this game is actually good enough to warrant playing in 20 years from now....
The year is 2038 and Steam (I'm assuming they're still around) is ending support for Windows 10 because MS lied about it being the "last Windows" and now will only support the most current OS -- Windows Prime: Sparkle Motion Edition.
Unfortunately, the game was developed for Win10 and has all sorts of bugs and either runs like garbage if at all on Windows Prime. Fortunately you still have your retro Windows 10 machine -- but oh... you can't install the game on your Windows 10 machine because Steam requires Windows Prime. Sucks for you!
If the game was released on GOG -- you could just save that installer and run it on your offline 'retro Windows 10' machine 15, 20, 30+ years later with no issues.
Steam was supposed to show how DRM is 'done right' but with them selling titles with clear labels "Notice: <Insert game here> is not optimized for Windows 7 and later " and ending the possibility of even launching Steam on Windows XP in 2019 it just shows that DRM can't be done right. Also that this is happening is a clear indication of what would ACTUALLY happen to your library of games if Steam ever closed shop for whatever reason.
