Spare or embrace

I learnt that sparing is the moral way to play and embrace the immoral (if you take the Hippocratic oath in context). Of course I blindly adhered to the popup and embraced Clay Cox only later to find that it is not good if I want side quests. So I am reloading the game and this time play with a nice guy attitude. Have you reloaded too?
