Report a translation problem
To me it's in a sweet spot so that it's not too big to be traversed on foot. You can probably run the map from end to end in 2-3 minutes after you've unlocked all the areas.
It reminds me of the maps from Way of the Samurai in size to be honest, so it's not really a map for exploration even though there are things and places you can find.
Most of the game is based around dialogue and that is where most of your gameplay time comes from.
as for the openness of the areas, it becomes more open as you keep playing, but you will be running through the same streets a lot.
