If you don't kill people and don't grind too much you'd probably underleveled by ~10 levels - which is making the game much more difficult if esp. boss enemies can kill you with a few strikes.
If you rush through it though without feedign on civilians, you will find the difficulty is spikign hard towards the end. I found killing mobs was harder than bosses at times at lvl 30ish xD. But only when they are too many against little old me. Other than that... it's alright if you adapt well.
The final boss was a J OMEGALUL K E.
And yeah, late game is definitely more different.
It works out... as long as you upgrade your weapons and prioritize in your survivability it's fine. Personally i found blood barrier pretty useful, esp. regarding second upgrade path (3 absorbs, no costs). You can pretty much ignore your enemies attacks while it's active - even in case of a boss fight.
