Abyss vs Blood Cauldron Ultimate

So I'm trying to test out and compare Abyss and Blood Cauldron and for the life of me I can't see any reason to take Abyss. The problem is that Abyss's selling points are supposed to be that they incapacitate your enemy and do a lot of damage.. but so does Blood Cauldron. When you first get them Abyss does 600 shadow damage and lifts something up in the air so you can hit them some more. Blood Cauldron also stuns your enemy during it's 400 damage dot and then hits for an additional 230.. and this ratio remains to max level where Abyss is 2000 and Blood Cauldron deals 1300+915 (2215).. So what gives?

The only thing that'd make sense to me is if more enemies were resistant to shadow damage as opposed to blood damage. At least we can all agree that Rage is hot garbage.

cauldron's stated damage is the dot, if the enemy dies during the dot, it explodes and deals the secondary damage to all targets nearby. the total damage to the primary target is significantly lower than abyss's.

given the fact the main threats are all enemies in 1on1 fights, abyss far outclasses the other 2 ultimates. not like it matters as blood spear>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything.

That may be what's implied, but I've tested it on enemies that it does not kill and it still does the explosion.

In case anyone stumbles across this later, I beat the game and I was right. Most of the bosses you'll care about aren't resistant to shadow magic.

So What you saying is Abyss is the way to go?

In the long run, yea. You can respec for free once and Blood Cauldron is good early on, but boss fights are the hard part.
