A game which allows you to kill children may fall automatically into the Mature-like zone, and it may be even banned from some countries, meaning that you have lost millions of potential clients just because you have decided to allow to kill children. In this case, you may spend a lot of extra money adapting the game to the cultural and legal standards of these countries, too.

So I'm pretty sure it's not possible.
I hope so.

Mate, did you fall on your head or something ? How does it take money to remove such a feature ? You just remove the npc pure and simple (and the questline associated with them if that's the case), that literally takes 10 minutes, no joke (unless the game is built on killing kids, which i imagine that's not the case). And what's that about "cultural" standards ? I am pretty sure that even the most backward tribe in the middle of butt ♥♥♥♥ nowhere frowns upon killing children.
You may be right about the game not having killable children but your reasons why.... are simply mind boggling .... to put it nicely.

All memes aside, his original argument does make sense. It would kinda be a pain in the ass to deal with the backlash they would recieve from the public regardless of what country it's in. You are killing children afterall. It would up the rating to the highest available and reduce the playerbase significantly, and might I add, for little to no profit of people that want the feature. Yeah I guess it'd be cool if I could kill annoying little bags of ♥♥♥♥ and be that evil, but a feature like child murder isn't going to make or break whether or not I buy a videogame.

Also it would give the anti video game narcs that think games influence violence and shootings yet another thing to whine incessantly about.

I mostly agree with you but did you see me argue against those points ?
Yeah, i guess some people will not buy the game because that feature, but their number would be extremly small, and not the milliions the guy predicted, hell i don't think the game would sell so many copies to begin with. And on that note Dead Space 2 had some dreadful stuff along those lines, and that didn't stop it from selling well, and to be honest these days people will find anything to complain about, most of them irelevant to the game itself.
Don't get me wrong dude, i am in the same boat as you, i don't particulary care about the feature.
And the thing you said that the "backlash would be unanimous" i said myself.
Please elaborate if i'm wrong.

I think a lot more people would either not buy the game (because they're sensitive little flowers) or sales/ publicity would be impacted in general because there are people out there who would definitely want to lynch the game because of it. Obviously not in the millions, but it would be enough to make a dev think twice. So all in all it's a risk. Parents would also probably balk at it, but then again they don't have any right to complain since they're the ones buying their child a game in which you play as a serial killer vampire doctor.

Completely off topic, the fetus necromorphs in dead space were pretty damn funny.

I remember there was an ad for Dead Space 2, "the game your mom hates" or something, now that ♥♥♥♥ was controversial moreso that they didn't tell the middle aged women that they where part of an ad, still didn't stop the game pull 4 million sales, and that ♥♥♥♥ is alot, especially for the niche genre that Dead Space was part of. And also ♥♥♥♥ EA for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the franchise. EA can suck my ♥♥♥♥, the amount of good franchises and companies they killed makes me sick.
Back at this game, i don't personally think that killable children would cause such a big outrage especially if you are not required by the game to kill said kiddy, you will see the usual suspects at it for sure, but the average gamer won't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about it, and so will the dev, since this is an Europe based company, moral police doesen't really work in these beautiful lands.
I myself was kinda disgusted by those spider babies, at first at least. RIP Dead Space may you sleep well along side the countless franchises that have been either killed off, forgotten, or simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥ beyond recognition.

I suppose if they're willing to take the first steps they could pull it off. The moral climate is constantly shifting ever forward, and there is probably alot of repressed people out there that would give anything to feel the satisfaction of punishing an annoying kid in the worst way possible.
I don't think they'll do it with Vampyr tho, simply because it's a small studio with not much financial cushion.

We'll revist the thread after release then.
You have a point with the repressed people , but they tend to "express" their desire in different mediums, mostly outside the video games, altough there are some choices in videogames for said people, either specialized games mostly made in Japan, and good old fashioned Skyrim mods, the latter having some really really sick ♥♥♥♥. And i also agree that the game will probably not have killable children, simply because they don't really fit the character, altough i imagine that other Vampyrs will certainly do it. In any case God praise these companies that still make story driven single player only games.

I'm a little worried for you OP... but I expect there will be morality things where a child dies, I don't think it's gonna be to the point where you could just gun them down a la GTA 5 but from the tone the devs are trying to set, it's gonna be a dark, bleak world so I dunno, maybe yes, maybe no? We just have to wait and find out...
GabeOytoucher Nov 19, 2017 @ 9:08pm
Not gonna lie, I've kinda changed my position. The current moral climate is one in which some far left people actually defend pedophilia and the sexual predation of children (mortifying, I know), and I think being able to kill them in a video game would probably pale in comparison.
Yeah I know from a rational standpoint killing children is far worse than having sex with them, but if I'm being completely honest I'm far more comfortable with killing a child than with pedophilia. At least then I can try to rationalize to myself a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ excuse for why this kid has to die.
