Struggling to maintain 60 fps
Ok this game is running on UNREAL engine so my PC should be able to do AT LEAST 60 fps. Except that it doesn't in Fernbus.

Conversely, in ETS2 and a heap of mods, I easily get 150 to 170 fps. On Ultra/High (whatever the max is). Including maxed out draw distance, vegetation etc. I only drop to about 50-85 in cities but that's still acceptable.

But in Fernbus, It's struggling to get 60 to 65 fps on the highway. Whenever it enters cities etc, it drops to 30s.

Dropping graphic options down from "EPIC" (the default when I first started the game) to "Medium" or "low" etc doesn't really make that much of a difference.

So is there a "trick" to it?

PC Specs:
i5-7600
16GB RAM
GTX 1070
Win10 Pro
TrackIR
Logitech Drive Force GT

ps: My units are already "European"... just in case someone wants to point me to a sticky post here.

There's nothing you can do. Fernbus has some pretty terrible optimization and partly because of the engine. I have double the RAM, an i7 6700k, same GPU, and I can't even maintain 50 FPS in certain places. Though usually that isn't a huge deal for me, but the airport though, that's where it really drops to below 30 FPS.

I doubt this game will be optimized at all. Unreal IMO is not fit for simulation games and this is just one example of it.

Ouch, dammit... ok thanks for the bad news Kitsu.

Generally Fernbus is playable, I just hate the stutters when I enter cities. The whole game is on an M.2 NVMe drive (same like ETS2 and ATS) to minimise those micro-lags on highways when the game is loading in new road sections. They're all but gone in ETS2 and ATS now. Fernbus, can't tell... the fps drops is already irritating enough to me.

Yeah the Engine itself is really not cut out for these sorts of Games. I do get better FPS in other Forms of Unreal Engine Games, but certainly nowhere near as smooth as other Engines around.

Unfortunately, this will not change, and TML are Developing their City Bus Simulator also on the Unreal Engine, which is a bad move to do, but hey, that's life unfortunately.

The low FPS I can handle, it's the stuttering that I always got which was always the immersion breaker for me.

Yeah kinda sucks that an Unreal Engine game is getting such low fps for me. In other game using Unreal, there is no problem maintaining or exceeding 60 fps.

As for the trees, it kinda looks like "phasing" doesn't it? Seems to be more leaves fading into view as you get closer :D At least that doesn't happen in ETS/ATS. The roads seem to have "less polygons" as well in Fernbus... the curved parts look..... jaggy...pointy...sharp... don't know how to describe it.

There is something you can do. Set mirrors setting lower. In ultra you have like 6 mirrors at the same time which is incredibly heavy to support for your computer. I play with mirrors in high, there is only 2 mirrors left but I have 60 fps constant. To resume : Mirrors -> FPS drop.

I have 1060 6G 64G RAM i7-8600K and I had overclocked my CPU and still the game lagging
I play ETS2/ ATS / R6G / GTAV all fbs above 170 and this game is less than 60 fbs and a lot of fps drop

Hi there,

the team is currently working on the next updates for both Fernbus Simulator and Tourist Bus Simulator with the main focus on improving performance. Also, due to a bug in Unreal Engine 4.20, which Tourist Bus Sim got released with and is in use by Fernbus Sim Update 19, performance has dropped significantly. This engine-related bug has already been fixed in Unreal 4.22, which also brings some rendering optimizations.

We've developed some new tools ourselves in order to make it easier to find assets that are impacting performance, which helps the graphic artist to configure the assets more easily and faster. Also, the programmers have located and fixed a rare bug of the traffic manager which caused a memory leak resulting in loss of performance over time.

We're keen on everybody's feedback as soon as the next updates of both games become available for public testing.

In the meantime, you could lower the quality of the mirrors and resolution scale if you would like to get more performance. Deactivating shadows (lowest quality) can also improve performance.

Kind regards
TML-Studios

Hi! We actually improved the performance in the last updates. You are replying to a years-old thread. Regards

Para vcs verem: anos com o mesmo problema e sem solução!

It s always the same in 2023 I have this game on a M.2 32GB ram RTX3070TI and struggling to maintain 60 FPS lmao, sometimes I drop to 15FPS when I'm entering in Paris for exemple... you need to Set Shadow to low and also the same for mirrors to have a game pretty decent that the only way today...

Im on a 3060 ti with 32gb ram and game on nvme ssd and still get drops into 40s here and there - on 1080p - its insane.
Right now im fiddling around with engine.ini tweaks to get rid of stutters etc.
Also the Lighting is partialy sooo over the top with sunglare you dont see anything and it also does not look good - i wonder if TML actualy played their own game for once.
The sound design is soo bad - god its just mindboggling,

And why am i still trying to fix their game? Because underneath all the hassle is a decent game and one of a kind.

Seriously it’s not worth the effort.
If they can’t be bothered fixing it, then why should we.
The new game engine just cannot process, render the speed you drive at etc. it runs better on the old engine. Tourist bus runs better than this because it’s slower -no autobahn.
Remember, your paying for the franchise ‘Fernbus’, not a dedicated game.
Besides, the devs bailed out ages ago on this and closed their forums and help and moved to disgorge. Say anything bad on there and get banned.

As for ‘one of a kind’, yep you got that right…thank god.
The fact it plays better on a gamepad and not my full G29 setup, sums up the quality that went into it.
I actually spent more time (I got this and Tourist Bus Simulator in a sale at the same time) trying to setup my G29 wheel -deleting, assigning, etc,etc,- that I went over the 2hr mark without even having played them **properly** and couldn’t refund it…. I honestly thought I could get them working properly. The only games I owned that don’t work with wheels - yeah, the forums are full of frustrated wheel owner posts who think it’s them or there’s a fix.

It’s up there at the top of my worst steam purchases in 18 years of over 800 games..
