Stuck in Chapter 1 - interaction causes freezing

Naturally, spoilers will follow:

I'm stuck in the painting room where the ghost appears and Cassie sees the tree in the distance. Going downstairs she receives a phone call and our next objective is to hide.

Removing the planks I find this cocoon-like thing where I need to hide but hitting left mouse button causes the game to freeze. I am unable to do anything. ALT-TAB and task manager do not help, only signing off from Windows does.

I did a file verification which was 100% so I cannot do anything as the error is easily reproduced. Going the opposite way (where the cocoon is) makes Cassie fall down (right after that the game abruptly quits). I wonder if this is deliberate.

Thanks for playing! I haven't seen this happen, but am looking into trying to reproduce it. Really sorry for the trouble. In the meantime, there is an autosave shortly before this. Does it happen for you every time?

Again, sorry this happened for you. I'll dig around and see if we can reproduce or see what might be causing it.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what to do. Should I restart the game (as in the entire chapter)? The autosave is where the painting is - it doesn't help, unfortunately. The cocoon makes me quit the game.

I have restarted the entire chapter and I managed to bypass this issue. I am currently doing a 2nd playthrough and this issue did not occur. I assume it is a one-time error.
