I would definitely say The Lair chapter was the most terrifying for me (mostly because of the boss, I'll get into that in a bit) and boy... at times I could not move forward because I was so tense- my hands were shaking and my heart was beating so fast, I was actually surprised that my blood was still able to flow in my body

So... why was the Lair area so terrifying?
Well, it was mostly due to the janitor. In my opinion- he is the scariest boss in LN1. The leeches were, well... leeches, I found the chefs kind of endearing and they were cute in their little way, the guests mostly annoyed me because they made me relive my days of commuting home from school and I practically got squished almost everyday, and I thought the lady was eh. I don't have any strong opinions other than I love the aesthetic of her quarters. BUT THE JANITOR... HOOO BOIII- he terrifies me and the music and sound design plays a huge part in that.
The creaky sound effect you hear when he stretches/moves his head from side to side, the way the music swells(?) when he grabs you, then everything goes quiet and you hear him smacking his lips followed by the screen gradually fading into black and his room (the green room), there was a subtle change in music that had me scrambling to find somewhere to hide because I thought he would appear suddenly. Not to mention the part in the vents(?) where he suddenly appears behind you and you have to rush to get to the elevator. There were also a lot of puzzles(?) in this chapter that had me on the edge of my seat (the loud-a** crank that opened the door to the shoe room, the crank in the TV room you had to get to raise the piano, and the button you had to throw a shoe at to get to the library). These puzzles required the player to act quickly and I cannot count the many times I've prematurely celebrated but then made the error of being at his arm's length and had to restart the puzzle because his arms were SO DAMN LONG (agh.)
Not to mention his character design, the colors, the textures... it has this musty feel to it that makes the viewer feel like they can TOUCH or SMELL him through the screen.
Interesting read. I'm curious what you might have to say after playing through the DLC content. Think you'll be getting them?

I kinda disagree, I don't have any hate torwards your opinion and I totally respect that. But let's just say... I like the Janitor/Roger more than anyone in Little Nightmares.

Ah, I'm really sorry.. I didn't mean for my post to come across as hateful or nitpicky. I don't actually hate the Janitor/Roger, I like him very much and he's such a well done character bcause of the reasons stated in my previous post (character design, sound design, and music). because of him I was able to enjoy Little Nightmares and become immersed in the game's atmosphere. Even though I think he was the scariest boss for me and his chapter scared me a lot- I think the lair had to be my favorite part of little nightmares. Heck, when I saw my friend playing LN in 2018 and I saw the janitor- that's what made me interested in the game in the first place

The granny chapter in the dlc, I have a pretty big fear of deep water so it was super stressful playing that level, non counting dlc Id choose the Lady chapter, I jumped when the lady appeared behind you in the hallway
YES, the deep water. Ergh. That and the whole... shoe monster thing in the base game. Both just are so unnerving.

I laughed at the shoe monster because "haha, trash monster from A New Hope". At the same time... It is so uneasy when you don't see what is coming at you.

.... Actually, equally uneasy when you DO see what it is and it is horrifying.
