Why can't I get out the first room!

I never ever watch walkthroughs but after being stuck in the first room for what felt like forever I just had to see what I was doing wrong. Turns out I don't think I am.. have lit the lantern, opened the hatch but it won't let me crawl through! Pressing shift and all, I don't understand please help :(

hold ctrl to crouch! shift to run! and hold the mouse left button to pick up things!
