More specifically, the part where you're supposed to lure him away by throwing toys.

I pick the first one up, toss it somewhere in the first room, hide in the hole in the wall and sneak into the second room when the dude leaves. But as soon as I get near the second toy, and well before I'm close enough to pick it up, that thing growls and comes sprinting right back into the room to grab me. I've tried sprinting, I've tried tossing the first toy to different parts of the room, I've tried sneaking into the second room and hiding behind the figures even before he leaves to check on the first toy - it doesn't matter. He growls and runs back to me as soon as I get close to the second toy.


I've watched four or five Youtube videos of this specific part and I fail to see what they are doing different from me. Been at this for one hour now. What, what, WHAT am I doing wrong?

...and now this has started to happen every now and then when I wake up again.
Even the dude is getting frustrated with having to do this over and over, apparently.

I think I know what part you're talking about? When I throw toys, when he's first alerted I sneak away. When he's examining it I crawl away as well. I don't wait for him to walk away, as soon as I have a chance to move without being noticed, I move.

You can throw the first monkey as far left as you can, and then creep through the cubby hole (stay on the carpet)

There are 2 more monkeys in that room. Throw one as far left as you can, and hten get to the cupboard adn start climbing asap. You should be fine with only two monkeys thrown

@Jynn: The problem is that I can't get close enough to pick up the first monkey in the second room before he growls and comes sprinting back in. I don't know if I leave the hole in the wall too early/late, or if I throw the first monkey too far/close, or if I'm missing something completely else, but I'm apparently doing something very wrong as no one else seems to share this particular trouble of mine.

You are probably stepping off the carpet. The moment you touch hard wood floor he will come running in

It is hard because of the dolls in the foreground, but you can see the edge of the carpet if you tilt the camera a bit. Touching he dolls is okay, feel free to be close to them and creep past that narrow carpet area

Here's how to do it: When you start up, get to the ladder, and crouch walk to the hole the moment you finish climbing up. Don't be feared for if he freaks when you climb up he'll be too slow to grab if you immediately crouch walk to the wall. You want to get into a crouch as soon as possible. Once you've crouch walked to the hole in the wall run for the dresser, stick to the near wall, then it's all luck there. I usually spam the jump button once I gotten ontop of the dresser.

Here's what's wrong: It's scripted for him to enter the second room when you enter it and you may be walking onto creaking planks when you go for the second toy.

In the video you showed it's clearly just a bug that needs fixing or a restart, he's supposed to keep feeling around.

Welp, have to admit I never even thought about the floor creaking being a possible reason. Will give it another try and make sure I stay on the carpet.

And yeah, I'm well aware the freezing in the video is a bug, lol. Just found it funny that it took a good hour of miserable failing before it suddenly started happening every few respawns, like the game got just as annoyed as I was.

yup, any creaking of floor boards will bring him running. Have to stay on the strip of carpet that's there and he won't know you're there

I even managed it without the use any monkey there, i simply gone up runned slipped into the hole and runned to and climbed up, the dude wasn't even able to get into the next room and i already was on the middle of the climbing section... But of course don't try that if you go for 0 deaths because it's risky.

But safe method is to wait till he goes into other room, sneak up to monkey, throw it far behind and slip through hole then carefully sneak past all monkeys/stuff and then instantly run and climb.

Yep, the floor creaking was the problem. Do I feel stupid now, lol. I think I actually actively avoided going near the figures before (and thus veering off the carpet every time), as I assumed bumping into them would create noise and get his attention. Well, wouldn't have figured this out without help. Thank you!

Yes, just remember to always avoid walking on hardwood floors when he is about =)
