I feel as though Six is the "little nightmare" as she goes from innocent to just as grotesque and corrupt as the other "monsters" in this game. We see Six escaping from the same prison that the children are being monitored in, but she's not like the other children. She's tiny, just a bit taller than the Gnomes and she's equipped with a raincoat? I don't think she would've found a tiny raincoat just her size among the trash heaps in the Maw. This leads me to believe that she's been captured by/forced to work for the "Lady of the Maw," who just so happens to be running such a large scale shindig for these gluttonous cruise ship customers. Concept art shows Six cleaning a grotesque glutton, so this may be a hint that she's a cleaner for these hungry behemoths. Their hungerlust for Six, however, leads me to believe she's been moved to the children's prison to prevent her being devoured, or they smell her differently because she's eaten the same food they've consumed. Just early speculation, though. Would Love to see everyone else's perceptions!

theres alot to spectulate on. where are the normal humans aside from the children? what happened outside of the ship? website tells everything outside went to chaos. where or what happened to six's parents? how did Six end up there? where do these children even appear from? how were they captured?

who exactly is this Lady and now that Six has killed her, what will happen to the Maw, and the outside world with it?
O.O?????????

I feel like they ran out of time to make a proper ending.

i feel like some of this game drew inspiration from the bath house setup in spirited-away, that bit of concept art could resemble that scene with the muddy rivier spirit she is forced to clean. there is certanly a lot of resemblance during the beginning of the waiting aria as the misshapen creatures arrive by boat and enter a very japanese themed interior. it just seems to click for me.

As evidence for Six being the "little nightmare" Doesn't she eat more and more grotesque food as she goes on? The first time, a fellow prisoner shares her bread. Then she's eating meat in a trapped cage, meant for mice. Then she's eating a nome offering her food, and lastly she eats the lady herself... where she goes on to devour the souls of the passengers with an evil aura.

I definitely agree. I started my second playthrough and I'm noticing a lot more. There's definitely a lot to speculate about. The only two tall slender characters we see are the "Lady of the Maw" and the man who's hung himself in the beginning. This sorta leads me to believe that Six's parents are Japanese, perhaps were immigrants at one point before the outter-world chaos happened and her parents ran a themed retreat for wealthy, gluttonous customers. Post disaster, Six's father has killed himself and her mother is now entirely focused on maintaining her beauty and running the business, which is why Six appears so small. She's neglected and forgotten so she feels as such, which is also why she must scavenge for food. Due to her mothers corruption, the mother figure is grotesque and shatters all the mirrors she owns, causing her to wear a mask to hide herself to the guests and others. This is also why we see Six kill the mother figure. As a result of her neglect, Six is returning to a primal state of mind and must challenge and defeat the "leader" to regain power and status. Still mulling this over though, definitely a fun game to interpret!

That she does! She's also forced to eat a trapped rat at one point which I feel points to her desperation and downward spiral into madness/corruption.
