So how is the game now?
Havent played this game in a long time. I stopped because of some bug or something and i wanted to wait for more content.

I see the reviews are now mostly negative. what happened?

Depending on when you last played the game, there will be no new content or next to no new content.
Since release:
- they added Bloodtrail (1st and last season) and did a big rebalance in December 2020
- they reworked summoner (to make it OP from trash) in July 2021
- they were bought by Gaijin Entertainment in 2021 (but never communicated about it)
- they slightly reworked expeditions in Juanuary 2022
- they added controller support in August 2022
- they added a "Chapter 4" (which is only the missions from Bloodtrail and a lite version slightly reworked of the endgame, so nothing really new) and did a big rebalance (and brought back all characters to level 40 for no good reason) in March 2023
- they release console version in March 2023 (a day after the release of the Chapter 4 on PC)
- they (finally) activated Steam Cloud in November 2023
With quite some bug fixes along the way.

Anyway, there was not a lot of content added since release (and not that much done aside from fixes, and mostly overdue things).
They completely scraped the planned Chapters 4 and 5, and instead released "something" under the name "Chapter 4" to be able to say the game is "done". And, probably with the help of the studio in Romania (brought by Gaijin, I guess), they ported the game to console in order to bring in new players.
As something everyone but them saw coming, they bite more then they can chew. Not only the Chapter 4 was not in great shape (like every big patch that has been released for Wolcen) but the console ports were even worse (and included Chapter 4 and all its issues). So they didn't manage to bring back players and, even worse, new players (as those would inject money to continue developments).
After that debacle, they completely stopped communicating (again), released hotfixes over the following months, and basically abandonned working on the game (although they announced they would reboot seasons once the campaign is completed).

Recently, they posted an announcement where they officialize the fact they have stopped working on the game and that they would stop the servers in September.
It's not a surprising announcement as they have stopped working on the game for a while now, nobody is playing the game, nobody is buying the game. So they don't have money to work on the game nor to run servers that nobody uses.
But still, people are not happy losing something they weren't using. So...
Devs announced they are ending future development/support and removing multiplayer functionality in the fall. So people are upset. Not sure anybody much was using the servers, active player count is pretty low I think. But the feature is being removed and there is no alternative for multiplayer so people are upset and posting negative reviews.

Otherwise game is okay. A few bugs here and there but haven't noticed anything gamebreaking. Has some good ideas that weren't always implemented perfectly. Campaign is too easy overall and post-release final fourth chapter has kind of a tacked on feel to it but the campaign is generally one of the better ones in the genre with decent plot, characters, voice acting and cutscenes.

Game stability is still a problem. It will randomly crash on occasion. The UI is quite wonky. Sometime you won't be able to launch an operation because the start button is disabled and lose your gold spent on purchasing mission upgrades. Still a fun game, easily worth $5 on sale atm. Lots of potential, sadly we'll never see this game shine as Wolcen has ceased support.

Also can't portal back to town (to sell loot) even after completing an operation. This is a prime example of why Wolcen is and will always be the arpg industry meme.

Do you mean in War table missions? You can sell excess loot at Trade Shrines. There's one at the end of bonus dungeons and after final boss.

During missions this works, but once you've completed the objective then we should be able to tp back to town. As a result, the developers force you to back track through entire maps just to pickup loot or kill those gold beetles and it's just a huge time sink. Ah well, who cares really because Wolcen Studios has abandoned their game.
