As for difficulty, its probably harder than D3 until you settle on a build, but about the same after?
I personally see this game being pretty much mix of some popular ARPGs. Its D3 in terms of combat quality (best part), but its has more depth then D3 in terms of builds and playstyles (a kin to Grim Dawn and LE), which makes it by default better then D3 (imo).
I'm not a fan of D3 overall but the combat was addictive at the very least and this game has both good combat, visuals, and an interesting skill system. The BEST things about this game is the visuals, effects, combat feedback, and fun skills. The visuals even still rival D4 imo, the effects are top notch that make every skill or attack feel powerful, the sound effects are beautifully done with things like skills, attacks, drops, enemy deaths, uniques...etc all sounding every visceral, there is a very good amount of enemy variety to smash through....etc.
Now the game even at this point still has some bugs, but none of them are game breaking like the launch was and I was able to play all the way through endgame with much of any disrutions (except online servers being iffy so I made an offline character). The end game system is not for everyone, because its just a different take on D3 rifts (better imo), where you build up the city, unlocking small enhancements to you character and buffs to your "mapping".
I would say if you come in with an open mind and just want to try a new ARPG you will have a good time with Wolcen.
You prefer Diablo 2? a single mistake on your tree and you need to reset all the game?
