For a newcomer, i think that the price is right considering that they are still working on the game (a final act is coming soon).
As for the bad ratings: this game started as something almost completely different when it was on Early Access (imagine a fusion between Diablo and Divinity Original Sin)...if that werent enough, the game went out of EA in a pretty terrible state and without a proper endgame: many things changes from that time, but that left a bad taste for many people
How can you be sure let me explain it. If you see a flying dragon in front of a mountain at background animation at main menu, your character belongs to Bloodtrail. But if you see a dark ambiance and flaming around at main menu, your character belongs to Legacy. Dont play in Legacy.
Legacy and Bloodtrail have same story line but end games are different. Devs are improving the game at Bloodtrail side so you should play in Bloodtrail.
1) only 1 inventory page,,insread of playing the game you will get back in town every 10 min to sell items,,,this will take majority time. That was made with intention, - to force players to waste their time X amount times more than need. It makes game maximum unsatisfying and disgusting.
2) terrible response of buttons (gamepad/keyboard), sometimes you need push the attack/skill button 6-8 times to activate this,,,you fight not with enemies, you fight with your keyboard/gamepad mostly.
3) items balance is total garbage,,the same Items 30-40 levels higher can have worse stat than the low level.
4) broken calculation. sometimes +12% of damage give you less damage than +8% of damage
5) with every decision in game developer show NO respect to players. They already RESET characters of players some time ago,,,and THEY aRE GOING to do this AGAIN. They are going to reset all characters and itmes from level 90 to 40.....and just say f*** you players,,,and f*** you hundreds of hours that players wasted for heavy grind to get gear in that broken game.
6) soon you will see how these Reviews will drop in Mostly Negative zone.
7) there also some amoung of not fixed bugs,,and they also can be annoying.
Let me explain why did Devs reset Legacy and released Bloodtrail.
They reseted it because there were alot of not legit matters happened in Legacy server. %99 of players were duping items, selling duped items for real money, there were no economy in the game alot of players have x50 Trial belts and billion golds/affinity points and there were no balance between players because with duping method players were crafting ultra high stat items and these are affecting the game balance and also the all items stats nerfed. There were alot of issues with Legacy server. A lot of players were unhappy with these situations. Most of them were refunding the game on steam coz of bugs or illegal matters were happening in the game. So Devs solved the all duping item methods in legacy server and with new nerfed stat items released with a fresh clean wiped server and they name it with Bloodtrail. They seperated Bloodtrail server from Legacy server. Everyone started to play from very begining and we opened a new clean page without illegal matters happening in this game again. Everyone was happy with this solution.
That sounds pretty awful. Thanks for the info. I'll probably be waiting for a deep sale on this one.
It happens sometimes when developer reset some things in game in 2-5 month after game only released on Steam, to fix a lot of bugs. But.. this is not acceptable in game that already 3 years old.
There is only 1 right decision: to let players play chapter 4 with their existing characters (even if this is level 90) or players can Create new one level 1 and to play the game from the beginning. This must be players choice.
I have 320 hours in this game,,,and im level 88, i know how its incredible hard to farm all gear and materials, how slow and unsatisfying this process. I cant even imagine how players who have 500-1000 hours in this game will feel themselves, if they will lose everything.
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem was released as an official game out of Beta on February 13, 2020. Bloodtrail, on the other hand, officially left the Legacy server on December 3, 2020. Meanwhile, Lords of Mayhem, which is Legacy, was not closed or wiped. They just opened a new page on a separate server as a new season. Anyone could play on the Legacy server. Or disturbed players switched from legacy server to Bloodtrail server. They started the new season just 10 months after the game's release date, and the reason they switched from the legacy server to a separate server was because there were too many error codes on the old legacy server. So they fix bugs and share a patch, but when we installed that fix patch, more bugs would appear. Instead of fixing the error by writing new codes over the existing ones, they opened a new page from scratch and published the game programmed with clean codes. The official game was accepted as Bloodtrail. If we accept the Bloodtrail release date as December 3, 2020, they have prevented many annoying mistakes and illegal tricks we have experienced in legacy within 1 year. Most of the problems were fixed, and after 2 years, patches to improve the game were shared. In these 3 years, there have been great developments in the game and I can say that the problems that will affect the game flow of the players have been reduced by 100%.
But I want to give you an idea about something. There is a very nice community on the game's official discord channel. Everyone helps each other in every way, common games can be played. There is a discord channel where you can ask questions and get instant answers on any topic that is on your mind. There are so many benefits to using it. Otherwise, if you are going to play a solo game away from the community, it will be difficult for you to enjoy the game or farm items with little knowledge about the game.
I've been playing the game since the beta period and I help all the players in every way I can. There are many optimistic players like me, not just me. I suggest you use Wolcen Discord, you won't regret it.
In addition, you have the right to create a maximum of 8 characters in the game. Any player will not start from lvl 1 by deleting their characters between lvl 80-90 in 8 different characters when chapter 4 comes out, but when the characters of people with lvl 80-90 are reduced to lvl 40, they will gain extra EXP bonus and level up faster than other players.
If that's your problem, use the discord, be sure that every helpful player like me and me will help you and all players who think like you.
Good decision,
Big % off sale is only time I would recommend buying Wolcen.
Agreed.
If you like ARPGs, Path of Exile and Grim Dawn are the only S-tier ones on Steam, and I'd recommend Grim Dawn over PoE because PoE has become a mess with so many season mechanics rolled into the base game.
If you're a fan of the genre, it's worth a playthrough. Looks great, too.
I haven't had any bugs or performance issues.
My favorites of the genre are probably Grim Dawn, followed by Titan Quest, Diablo 2, and PoE. This one isn't quite that tier, but a good second tier like Van Helsing Final Cut, WH Chaosbane, Torchlight 2, Diablo 3, Last Epoch, etc.
The reviews are skewed negative because of a rocky launch, entitled fans who preordered/kick-started, tons of bugs, poor optimization, the whole mess. The reviews from 2022-23 are better. I missed it; didn't play Wolcen until late 2022.
