Story mode end critism and such (spoilers)
Hello!

So i am someone who played this off and on from the alpha time, and now having just finished the story mode i intend to share my critism of the story itself as well as some thoughts having just started on the "champion of stormfall mod".

Now going from the start the story in my opinion had a pretty good start i even liked it quite a bit, but then i got to the Anankis part and the storytelling quality took a nosedive that never quite stopped.

First up the part about being unable to shutdown the powercore onsite and instead having to go to the place where the power was being sent makes no sense at all, nor does it make any sense that the "good brother" Elric is so damn hostile.

I mean he, i the MC and Valeria are supposedly extremely close to eachother having gone through thick and thin many times over but when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan and crazy lady maelys wants to kill Valeria whose only crime was not fetching me over instantly he just sits there like "oh alright".

Then he just flips his ♥♥♥♥ entirely when you defy dear old dad heimlock in order to go fight the evil cult you were already fighting instead of running away and decides to kill you and valeria for not following the law&orders.

So much for the close relationship.

......

The part with stormfall being submerged in this weird mist and chaos ensuring and we dont get involved at all? Feels like a huge missed story right here which would have gone miles to explain why we are suddenly popular in the "champion of stormfall" mode.

........

Then the entire Brotherhood arc, it wasnt terrible but somehow very convinient that this order of paladins just fall over like a house of cards the moment this one fury demon comes in......so much for all that holy and anti evil business.

....

Back to stormfall, if one goes there before before ending the game you get to see Damascus finally grow a spine and establish a military dictatorship in order to make some extremely incompetent and greedy nobles shut up.

Then it just ends there and after the story is finished and one enters the stormfall mode you just get a "6 months later Damascus is gone and everyone, including the nobles, loves you".......what? What happened here? What the ♥♥♥♥ did i miss?

................................

Back to the story, you and the good sun praising knights gotta get inside this republican fortress that was taken over by demons while the fortress is being sieged by uncorrupted republicans who want it back.

You and the sun praising bro´s figure the best way to do this is to have the brothers charge through the entire Republican army while you flank them and get on the walls to fight solo through a few army divisions on the walls to open the gates.

Didnt the republic already prove themselves able to massacre the dawnbro´s already? How the ♥♥♥♥ is it smart for those sunny fellows to try charging in a small group through a large republican army? Why did that actually work?

Would have made a lot more sense to have everyone flank instead since the republicans would not exactly have the leeway to bother anyway.

...........

The monolit, supposedly the republicans from the first time they found it determined it was a evil building that seemed to emit fury magic or something and they tried to blow it up but failed so they built that entire fortress to contain it according to the story.

Alright so if the building is visually corrupt or something why are the insides pristine pure Primordial style? How in the blazes are there still functioning guardians inside if a large demon army just came though when Anankis fell much faster despite your help?

--........

Oh dear old heimlock is back and supposedly free from the demonpact that left him with close to 0 free will? .,......who thought it was a good idea to let him tag along to the ritual site where he might interfere if he is still a bad egg or if the Demon makes a push?

Then him fighting Valeria, what the heck was i doing? Am i no this super powerful ascended? Why did i not get back on my feet until after she was crippled even after she started fighting a while earlier?

So much for the super powers.

............

The ending itself..............massive f**** cliffhanger that leads into a "6 months later" in the stormfall champion mode, is this a joke? For real?

Evidently i won somehow given that the Demon did not but what the actual fu still, would it have been so hard to just say "the holy spear worked but a many natural disasters ensured and most human lands were laid to waste. Now the human heroes&leaders must rally their kin to rebuild and retake their world".

That kind of ending combined with a story arc about us helping out during the stormfall crisis would be good to leadup to the story behind the "champion of stormfall" mode i think.

Even with the entire deal with Damascus left unexplained.

Instead we get to see a tiny flash of the Demon basically gloating for a moment before it goes black and the credits roll as if to say he won, then the entire "6 months later" happen like it was all a lie.

Overall i am really not amused :(

I agree .... the part where Valerie dies and I'm .... stunned I guess , followed close by " 6 months later " was pretty ♥♥♥♥ .

on the other hand I play these types of games for the actual gameplay . played Diablo 3 for 2k hours + and I don't really remember or care about the story

Yeah it might be silly to come up with so much critism for the story but i also made and posted some for the rest as well :P

And honestly what promted me to write was just the fact that the ending was so ♥♥♥♥, i could have overlooked the rest but the ending was too much <.<

i have gotten to chamion of stormfall mode as well, and i thought i was missing a cutscene or two, because Damascus once the king of stormfall is somehow just gone, no explanation like wth?
Rhawkas Mar 1, 2020 @ 8:47pm
It's because they didn't get the rest of the actual story done. Basically, they wrote 3/5 of a book and then added added on an epilogue.
Cosmic Cat Mar 1, 2020 @ 9:07pm
Like Rhawkas wrote, there's at least two more acts coming to the game, thus there's a gap between Act III and End-game.

Elric = Brainwashed by possesed heimlock
Stormfall submerged = only act 3 out of 5 was released we don't got a full game yet.
Brotherhood Arc = Only the boss of this dudes is able to fight the deamons and he was held in a place to defend and was wounded after his own brothers fought against him because they were posessed.
Damascus back in Stormfall = only act 3 out of 5 was released we don't got a full game yet.
Fortress Siege = Brotherhood boss is back in the fields and "equaly" powerfull like your own toon and you massacred hundrets of thousands of enemys up to this point.
Monolith = This stuff was there from the beginning and the build arround it? No clue for sure why it was that way.
Heimlock = Yeah dragging this guy along was a terrible misstake. On the other hand I belive everyone wanted to Heimlock to be good again so they took him with them.
Cliffhanger ending = only act 3 out of 5 was released we don't got a full game yet.

Storys are recieved badly depending on taste. I like the netflix show "happy" for example and a friend lokks at me like I'm from another planet because he dislikes it. Wolcen isn't a finished game and should be called "Payed Beta Test" and that's where a lot of problems come from. After boring myself a lot with the "endgame" I don't bother about the cliffhanger anymore because the game has lot all it's "magic" already.

So my comments:

Remaltionship: Well history has proven already so many times that just because people shared a chunk of their lives together and were close to each other, doesn't mean that there isn't someone who has a very flexible morale and could easily betray his/her beloved ones. Even till today, it happens constantly in families. There was nothing strange in it. And it was well narrated that Edric even said that he doesn't want to hurt his brother, and you should come in peace. What actually made me think what was really in the beckground. When Hemlock was possessed, i'm sure something happend to Edric too. But it wasn't explained.

Stormfall:Agree. Why are we suddenly the beloved champion? We didn't do sh*t We left them as soon the chaos begun. We only killed that fire Vyrm or what's the name way earlier. And where is Damascus? What happend?

Brotherhood: Why is it strange? They are just a group of warriors gifted with very limited capabilities who's duty is to prevent the return of evil. Sounds familiar? Diablo? Horadrim? They got steam stomped too. A mighty looking group or army is just mighty till the real threat kicks in.
They even said that last time they needed the help of the godess too.
They are only there for prevention. But they are not a match for the evil.

Storming the Purifyers and flanking: If you try to flank and sneak in with a huge group or already big enough army, it isn't a sneak attack anymore. :D Try to sneak into the backstage of a concert on the back of an elephant. Plus as they SAID, it was just for a distraction.
But the cutscene looked stupid, that's true. A much smaller group of soldiers charging against an army of Purifyers and demons? Hmmm

Why are promordial style structures in the monolith:
"Alright so if the building is visually corrupt or something why are the insides pristine pure Primordial style? " Because as they already explained in Act1, the big bad boys are actually fallen primordials.

"Heimlock betreyal"
You asking who thought it was a good idea to let him tag along to the ritual site where he might interfere if he is still a bad egg or if the Demon makes a push?
Well If I would have a 100$ bill for every time I had some friends who had a relationship with someone who was a toxic person to them, and they broke up. But they went back to that person by saying: "he/she deseYou asking who thought it was a good idea to let him tag along to the ritual site where he might interfere if he is still a bad egg or if the Demon makes a push?rves an other chance". :D You and Valeria are the children of Heimlock. Love is blinding.
That scene triggered me too, because it's stupid as f**** but still more realistic as you would think.

Oh and the ending. SURE IT IS a cliffhanger. As they already said multiple times. This isn't the whole story. Only the first 3 acts. 2 more will follow. No offense but why is everyone so mad about the story being a cliffhanger? It would be a shame if it wouldn't be one.

Since there is so much emphasis put on stormfall I'm hoping next chapter is dealing with the mist and learning more about the city. Then the final chapter can be set after stormfall mode and have you defend the city from the Cult as they try to destroy it out of spite for you ruining their plans. It would give you a chance to see some of the stuff you are supposedly building.

I really don't mean to necro, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you hit the nail on the head with your points here. Small game bugs aside, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story sucked balls and the whole Heimlock betrayal bit was beyond stupid. The ending is absolutely atrocious.
