You can do that but you need to be like a spellsword a sword and a focus.
But warrior skills change can do maigcal damage too at higher levels... Bladestorm for example can get converted into ice damage or Warriorpath into firedamage or Murderers Haste into shadowdamage, etc pp....
Yeah Child of Fury is good for that fire damage
I´m playing a dagger+catalyst combo and only fighting melee with melee spells
(shadow+bleed+poison damage)... the speed of this combo is insane and a lot faster than every dualwield standard attack.
My only problem is the catalyst, i dont like my character holding it in one hand, looks weird, they shouldve simply disabled off hand. Who holds a hanging lantern thing and fights?
There are other not so obvious items too, like books or things that look somehow like a dagger ;)
Know I said it before, but really this equipment restriction thingy just break the class free notion.
Well, here is just an example of me playing with dagger+catalyst only in melee range (3 catalyst spells and 2 melee weapon spells)

The joke is the fact, that all the ""attack skills"" are spells themselves... There is notinth melee or attacky about anything. They summon a huge magic hammer, while mysteriously cunjuring your own weapon away.... So all skills are spells - its ridiculas.
