So... When does the game become like Skyrim?
I remember when I kickstarted this game the big selling point for me was the developers saying it would be like Skyrim meets Diablo. I love the overhead gameplay style of diablo and open world of skyrim.

I just finished the tutorial and got to the first town to see I can't kill any of the npcs and I can not even leave the starting town. I am assuming leaving town is gated by a quest but its kinda against the idea of a Skyrim style open world if I can't just go "Forget this, I want to go this way and see what happens!"

Please tell me this is going to change, personally I feel like its going to be a huge letdown if I can't just go off and do my own thing, kill off villiages, ect.

well the whole world right now is basically a placeholder/asset showcase, tutorial included.
My best guess would be that more freedom to player action/interaction will come once the actual world and npcs work. They'll probably first focus on getting more rigid gameplay done and open that up once everything works.

Skyrim meets Diablo was already done. It's called Sacred 2. This game doesn't need to have a map as large as Sacred 2's. Sacred 2 was too big, IMO.

it really was. I had serious fetch quest fatigue 2/3rds down. If they had a better waypoint, ressurecting system, maybe ...

Rly? I loved the map of Sacred 2, so much freedom and interesting traveling in between. Sacred 3 wasnt Sacred anymore, so Im hoping for Wolcen

This.

The problem with Sacred 2 was the lack of interesting quests, hence why exploring those maps felt tedious... I would love to see another ARPG with a huge map like Sacred 2, but with more stuff to do... like on Skyrim.

Yeah, I only ever did 1 run of that game. It was so big that the thought of doing "all that" again was just tiring. The bigger the game is, the less likely I am to replay it, generally. I almost never go for 2nd playthroughs of 80hr+ games. Even some of the better ones.

The difference with Skyrim was the mods. Mods allow you to experience a different game every time you play it. I wouldn't have played through vanilla Skyrim twice either.

This will be like Skyrim right after the snow on High Hrotgar melts.

I agree. I think the only games where I fealt the map was to big were Sacred 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, and Fuel. I would prefer a map that is too big over one that is too small any day though.

I mean... it does not matter if it was already done or not, it's what was originally pitched to us kickstarter backers...

I think that they used Skyrim's name during the kickstarter mainly to show that the game is an open world. It's probable that a big part of the Skyrim mechanisms will not be in the game (because the Skyrim mechanisms are not all adapted to this type of game).

And remember that even in Skyrim, you are not free to go where you want at the start of the game : the open world part start after escaping from the dragon (so after 15-20 minutes of game). Here, we are free to go where we want after the fist quest from Father Gernez (so after 15-20 minutes too).

Also for arpgs its problematic, as its usually purely combat focused, if you wander off into high level area x and die people will complain its unbalanced, if they have all mobs scaled to your level it makes the game feel silly when you meet rats that are as powerful as what would be stronger mobs.
