no, you can´t

it's a cap and ball revolver, quite chonky to reload in the middle of the battle (even if cartridges for those existed)

I know. But it still possible. Some people carried additional cylinders for quick reloads if the revolver allowed it. I don't want to be basically unarmed after firing 6 shots.

no reloads for pistols in game. This is for balancing reasons. There was a time long ago when officers Rambo'ed the field. hahahaha

So much for the realism...

An officer's binoculars are a much more dangerous weapon in this game than his sidearm - IF he knows how to use them AND really behaves like an officer. And not just like a Rambo carrying a revolver.

And yes, that's realistic.

How not being to reload your weapon in a FPS is realistic and a good game design choice?
When everyone else loads in about 25 seconds, having six shots over and over again is potentially a problem. It isn't an officer's job to kill, it's to lead. If you're doing a good job you never need to use your revolver. Plus once you run out of shots, you have a melee weapon like everyone else, so its not like you're completely defenseless.

Did actual officers reload during the actual war? Of course. But its the right move here. I once saw an infantry officer grab an arty officer and they went down a stone wall and wiped out twelve guys after a volley. Not really what you want game play wise when promoting team based play.

Yes. The reasons posted to you above are correct. It's a simulation of 1862 ACW and a play balance decision by the creators.
As an officer, at those times when you live long enough to run out of pistol shots you resort to the sword. As infantry you have your one shot then resort to bayonet. It's part of the excitement of the era.
Why people want to transform this excellent game into Back 4 Blood is beyond me.

I think considering the sheer volume of fire and kill potential an officer's sidearm has - It's completely fine. Having the same effectiveness assuming 100% shot success rate as over half a section of rifleman on tap to dispense in an engagement is incredibly powerful as a *Defensive* tool and that's the primary thing, I think. An Officer's pistol is most definitely a defensive tool and should be used accordingly, and as other have pointed out, 90% of the time, it's all binoculars, which are more powerful to observe and co-ordinate your regiment of thirty plus soldiers than a single six-shooter will ever be.

It's not particularly realistic to not have extra ammunition but considering how quickly you can wipe out six people with it, it's definitely a good balance consideration.

Imagine thinking that having a 2 minute long ability to reload your six shooter will turn this game into back 4 blood. In my experience only one time I was able to survive long enough to use all shots.

It will not be a problem if the revolvers will have realistic stopping power. Cap and ball revolvers were pretty weak actually. They shot round balls at the low velocity like 160 m/s.

Maybe you should play more than five hours to get a good perspective on the game before you start complaining.

Sure, allow it - if it would take 6 times longer than loading a musket. lol

Still better then being basically disarmed. And I wonder how reloading for 2 minutes will break the game according to the people above and magically make officers wildely unbalanced.
