Gun sights historically wrong, etc
How can one contact the dev team the easiest? The sight system in game is flawed vs historical. The sight blade did not flip up for ranging until you get to 500+ yards. 100, 200, 300, 400 were all a ladder system that just raised on the sides of the sight apature. I can provide pics.

Additionally without going into a huge diatribe about casualties (I'm a living historian with a focus on these details), the weapons all aim low. In fact, the bullets would normally travel high in the time period. Part of this was due to the slower combustion of black powder causing the shooter to react and feel recoil before the bullet had left the barrel.

In the Civil War, common training was to aim for the belt buckle to help counteract some of this.

There were also other things that came into play that are represented fairly well in the game. It was because of the poor riflemanship in the Civil War that Gen. Ambrose Burnside formed the National Rifle Association in 1870.

the devs are pretty active here on the forum, whether they respond to your post or not i dont know, but they'll probably see it.

I've wondered why most of my shots land low when I aim at the chest/shoulders area, especially at ranges that seem relatively close (75-100 yards).

You should make an account on the war of rights forum page, a lot more threads.

"Aim low" was probably the most used phrase in the Civil War. Soldiers had to aim at boots instead of natural instinct of aiming at the chest.

Do you mean the static pieces? i thought they were ranged by eye? I think they will be when they finally introduce manable artillery.

unless you mean the rifle muskets in which case you'll need to advise which one you mean.
the Enfield has a ladder sight, the springfields had flip ups for 300 and 500 yards.
the 1861 was the standard two part flip ups, the 1855 was modified in bulk in 1858 as the original sights were rather basic.
The 1863 springfield actually was fitted with a single leaf sight, they removed the flip ups, i guess by that point they knew they were never really engaging over 100 yards.

Hello,

Thank you for your report.

Yes, the sights on the enfield are currently wrong in regards to distances (ought to be just using the different steps as you rightly point out).

This will be fixed when the sight adjustment animations are overhauled (they are extremely placeholder currently).

We have a range of original civil war weapons in our studio, the P53 being of them.

Yes TrustyJam but what about the weapon mechanics? I too was surprised by the shooting patterns vs historical accuracy and weapon behaviours.

Thank you, TrustyJam, I'd love to help out more should you need any. The two mentioned items are the major things that stuck out in my head of limited play.

Great job, boys.

While on the subject, the bayonet for the Whitworth seems to be messed up. The bayonet socket seems to be much larger than the diameter of the barrel, and the bayonet covers up the front sight considerably.

I understand the Whitworth is more of a marksman's weapon, maybe it shouldn't have a bayonet at all?
Lawn Dart Dec 11, 2018 @ 5:37pm
All of the Whitworth's ive seen (not seen in game yet) should have a saber bayonet rather than a socket bayonet. However, I would agree that if used in the sharpshooter role (huge scope), it would have been forgone.
