So bayonet is always the best option for melee. Officers should "stay back" or at least use their revolver.

That is indeed so. 6 shots (or 9+1 in case of the LeMat) and that is it.
Seems like it, so the pistol is only really useful if you get it as a bonus as a sharp. I once spawned with sword, pistol and carbine, so that was awesome. But it seems you can't reload pistol, so as officer with only sword and pistol, seems like a disadvantage to actually try to fight heh.
Also agree bayonets seem the best. Any advice for sword vs fixed bayonet? The sword is longer, guessing it causes more aim issues due to the added weight?
